THREAD: Today, Feb. 19, is the anniversary of #EO9066, FDR's executive order that authorized the mass roundup and incarceration of Japanese Americans--including my family.

Across the country, Japanese Americans commemorate this as the #DayOfRemembrance. /1
To read about how #EO9066 impacted my own family, you can read this piece that I wrote in 2017 for the Smithsonian @amhistorymuseum. /2 americanhistory.si.edu/blog/carl-take…
And to understand why the Supreme Court's 2018 repudiation of the infamous Korematsu case -- in the midst of upholding Trump's Muslim Ban -- gives me no comfort today, you can read what I wrote on that topic two years ago. /3 aclu.org/blog/immigrant…
But this #DayofRemembrance, I am not posting another detailed analysis of the constant, exhausting stream of racism and xenophobia flowing from this White House.

Three years into this administration, the historical parallels -- and the dangers -- should be obvious. /4
Instead, I'm going to sound a note of hope.

Across the country, @TsuruSolidarity is mobilizing Japanese Americans to shut down America's modern-day concentration camps.

It's a mass mobilization of our community unlike anything I've seen before. /5 tsuruforsolidarity.org
This movement is being led by former child prisoners like Satsuki Ina (see her powerful speech to @densho last year), and we're working to simultaneously assist the communities under attack and heal our own community's ongoing, intergenerational trauma. /6
I'm proud to be one of the people shepherding and growing this movement, and I am excited for what is to come.

We want to be the allies that our community needed on this day during World War II. /7
Tsuru for Solidarity is holding protests and rallies around the country.

And we're planning a June 6 march to the White House that we anticipate will be the biggest gathering of Japanese Americans since World War II. /8
