What Leavers always seem to forget is that the EU isn't some organisation lording it over the UK. It is a club of nations joined together for common purpose. We used to have a say in the running of the club, including on setting the budget and deciding what to spend it on.
To participate in the club, you have to follow the rules made jointly by all the members of the club.
We were never very good at it!
Call it hubris, arrogance, British exceptionalism, whatever you like... but for some reason many people felt the rules shouldn't apply to the UK.
