“Trump fears Democrats will exploit Russia’s support” is a RIDICULOUSLY generous way of saying he doesn’t want anyone to get in Russia’s way.
This Times article repeatedly frames Russian attacks on our democracy as a partisan issue - and then uses that framing to let Trump and other Republicans off the hook for supporting the attacks.

Politics as football turning a damning partisan divide into an exculpatory one.
Their reporting suggests Republicans don’t want govt officials to tell the blunt truth about Russian interference and who it benefits. Surely there’s another way to discuss that besides “gosh, probably a tactical error to upset them.”
If an intelligence officer tells you another country is attacking us, a blunt delivery would seem pretty effing appropriate. Why on Earth would you want that sugarcoated? 🧐
“You know, a lot of this is just a beef between Trump and Schiff.”
Every time a politician or govt employee tries to hold Trump accountable for collusion and obstruction, you get these stories framing it as partisan or personal. Making it seem normal that a president and party are all in on treason and abuse of power.
The real context for this story is that Trump colluded with Russia, says they didn’t interfere, hasn’t tried to stop more interference, has asked other countries to interfere, attacks and fires career staff who’ve opposed more interference, and replaced them with loyalists.
The context for this story is that Trump and his GOP are soliciting, aiding and abetting election interference. They’re obviously not done. They don’t want to get caught. Reducing all that to politics and personalities is a gift to Trump.
