Let's talk #MedicareForAll •vs• Public Option

#M4A:
✅ Covers everyone, no exceptions
✅ Includes vision, dental, hearing aids, mental illness & long-term care
✅ $0 premiums, deductibles and co-pays
✅ You see the doctors and hospitals you choose to see

Public Option = our current system + option to buy into a Medicare-like plan

The Medicare option would mimic traditional Medicare w/ premiums, deductibles & coinsurance. This is an improvement over our current system, but doesn't come close to the care you'd receive w/ #M4A

2
The Public Option doesn’t reduce costs because it doesn't create enough leveraging power or eliminate the administration overhead to drive down prices—it only gives you access to buy a plan.

If healthcare isn't financially accessible, then it's not accessible.

3
I support #MedicareForAll because I believe that healthcare is a human right and not a privilege reserved for only those who can afford it.

#M4A is the fiscally and morally responsible solution to our nation's healthcare crisis.

Now let's bust some #M4A myths ⬇️

4
#MedicareForAll eliminates your choices
🚫False. It's the opposite. You pick your doctors & hospitals. In our current system (& the Public Option), your provider / employer chooses your services, coverage & which doctors & hospitals are in-network. They have choice, you don't.

5
#MedicareForAll is too expensive
🚫False. #M4A would save $450 Billion a year as well as 68,000 lives according to a recent study from Yale. It is the financially responsible approach to implement.

#MedicareForAll would eliminate private insurance
✅True. We're cutting out the middle men, administrative costs & the CEO salaries that go along with it. #M4A includes job transition plans, job training and compensation for those whose jobs are eliminated.

7
#MedicareForAll would kick 130M people off of their insurance
🚫False. People would move from their very limited insurance plans to #M4A. It’s an upgrade. No more varying degrees of coverage. No more dealing with insurance companies or medical bills.

8
#MedicareForAll is unpopular
🚫Extremely false. It's favored by 59%-24% in New York and 57%-30% nationwide. A Democrat running on Medicare For All beats Trump by 13 points, while one running to strengthen the ACA only wins by 6. (@DataProgress)

9
So where do the anti- #MedicalCareForAll myths come from?

🥁 drumroll...... corporate lobbyists and the politicians they bankroll.

The healthcare industry spent $3.9 billion lobbying politicians over the last decade to protect their profits.

Insurance industry backed groups like Third Way (my opponent @RepTomSuozzi is an honorary co-chair) write op-eds and test messaging points to push anti- #M4A myths. Their goal is to create enough confusion so voters vote against their best interests.

Corporate lobbying is why we can't have nice things.
It's why I proposed the #PAIDBYAct which would force transparency on politicians to disclose their corporate donations that create a conflict of interest in their votes and campaign messaging.

Today's lesson:
If you want the solutions we desperately need, stop listening to lobbyists and the politicians they pay.

Start supporting candidates that are 🚫corporate💵 and fight for people-first solutions.
