A point that is easily missed but very important in the “why shouldn’t we think of it as a social contagion?” discussion:

Constantly remind yourself that being trans is not a disorder, just like being cis is not a disorder.
It will likely take some time and mental energy for that important premise to get a hold in your thinking.

Give it that time and energy.

And then reconsider.
If you start from the premise that being trans is not a disorder (just like being cis is not a disorder), and you are a parent who takes their child seriously, would the idea of and fervent advocacy for “rapid onset gender dysphoria” still make sense to you?
