Thread: So how can you prepare for #coronavirus? I'm a big proponent of preparedness as being something we can control; wrote a book about it. Don't panic. You are at risk of dying from so many other things!?! Your kids will feed off any anxiety so be the adult. Here we go 1/
Preparing for a "significant event" is pretty much the same whatever the threat. Think "72 on you." 72 hours of provisions in house (do it so others less fortunate can get the help they need): food, specialized medications and prescriptions, diapers, baby needs, some cash, etc. 2/
As for water, here's my general rule: 1 gallon per person per day. For my family of 5, that's 15 gallons. You should be set, but get more if you want (remember 72 on you is most likely worse case scenario.) 3/
I have masks; already did because I'm odd, but also because if I didn't I'd be a phony. Got them before #coronavirus. I think there is a run on them, but don't worry. In a pandemic that might hit, social isolation is proactive measure so just stay home. 4/
Talk to your kids now rather than later. They are likely already hearing about it. Put it in perspective and that there may be some disruptions. You are the adult. 5/
Can I say it now? Make sure kids fully vaccinated and that you all have flu shots. Why on the last? A more resilient society in terms of overall public health will be more resilient to other public health threats. 6/
Ok, #securitymom is done here. Honestly, I like what I heard out of the CDC. Planning/preparedness for disruption is what government should be doing. But it's also what we should be doing, especially parents. No panic. All good. You got time; get off twitter and use it. 7/7
