Massive renewable energy record in Germany: 61% of all electricity in February, with just a few hours to go!
Up to now the highest monthly share of renewable sources in electricity supplied to the public grid was 54%, in March 2019.
This was driven by an even more impressive wind power record: with one (windy) evening to go, wind supplied *46%* of all German electricity on the public grid, averaged over the whole month.
Previous monthly record: 34.7%, in March last year.
@energy_charts Wait! I should have added the monthly pie charts for February, not those for 2020 year-to-date (although impressive too). Here you go!
Look how coal got squeezed out, supplying just 1/6 of German electricity in February: 11.1% brown coal and 5.6% hard coal. It’s on its way out, finally. Fossil power in total just 27%.
Eight years of Germany’s record monthly renewable electricity shares:

May 2012 30.8%
May 2013 31.3%
Jun 2013 33.1%
May 2014 34.3%
Aug 2014 34.4%
Apr 2015 36.4%
May 2015 40.1%
May 2016 41.3%
Jun 2017 42.6%
Oct 2017 43.4%
Apr 2018 47.0%
May 2018 48.4%
Mar 2019 54.0%
Feb 2020 61%!
And the graph: monthly share of renewables in German electricity for the public grid, 2010-2020!
Don't get all excited about that 75% at the end; it's the first few hours of March ;)
Monthly share of windy power alone in German electricity for the public grid, 2010-2020!
February set the record at 46%; that March number is just for the first night.
Annual renewable energy shares in German electricity for the public grid. NB: 2020 is early days, just January and February ;)
Thx for asking @thatsamoray !

energy-charts.de/ren_share.htm?…
And, while I’m at it, the annual share of wind power in German electricity for the public grid. Here, good and bad wind years come into play.
That last bar is just Jan/Feb of this year. So far, it has been pretty windy ;)
