Ill be making a thread for class about this research done by @nytimes, here is the link docs.google.com/presentation/d… #kellyclass
The things we consume on a daily basis (podcasts, news stories, videos, tv shows, movies) all come with a bunch of recommendations. A never-ending stream of content vying for our attention. But nothing attracts consumers as well as real-life personal recommendations. #kellyclass
No amount of streaming content has the same online activity as scheduled programming. The conversation around weekly shows like "Game of Thrones" engages people who fear missing out. Shows available to binge don't connect people in the same way as scheduled showings. #kellyclass
Smartphones allow for news apps to send push notifications about their newest top story. Some users find it disruptive or intrusive, and would rather choose to have smart speakers read their news aloud. With the speaker, they won't be distracted by their phone. #kellyclass
With the advent of social media, news is a never ending stream of small updates on much larger stories without the necessary context. Stories with a more encompassing scope are much more welcoming to a consumer who wants to feel like they've caught up on the story. #kellyclass
Social Media user attempt to curb their usage of certain apps by deleting them off their phone. They don't disconnect entirely by checking on their desktop browser or only using on weekends. Users also can imploy app use limits on their phones, all to regain control. #kellyclass
The type of online content people consume is based on the time of day. Mornings are more about preparation for the day: hard news stories, informational podcasts... But as we tire out from exhausting days, easily digestible content is where we turn to at night. #kellyclass
As more and more news is being circulated, some of it is disinformation. People are naturally less trusting of everything they read. Readers want to know why and how a story is being published, and they want to know how credible the story is. #kellyclass
While social media is meant to connect you with the world at large, users are feeling more and more disconnection on their timeline. Users are turning more to group chats where they can have personal conversations, and private DMs are more meaningful than likes. #kellyclass
The political landscape is highly radicalized, and political opinion can attract attacks from strangers online. Users prefer to share their beliefs in private, with trusted friends. #kellyclass
With so much news coming in all the time, it's easy to miss the origin of a story. News organizations usually prefer to publish the latest news, but the often don't provide the necessary background information for a ready who is first hearing about it. #kellyclass
That's the end of it, hope I get an A.
