Why did the US reject coronavirus test kits readily available from the World Health Org & insist on making its own (initially botched & now mostly unavailable) tests? Possibly b/c the US-made test kits could make a personal profit for Trump. 1/

Here are the receipts.
First, from the CDC.
It says the US-made test kits, made by Integrated DNA Technologies, Inc. must be analyzed using a device called the 7500 Fast DX Real Time PCR Instrument, made by a company called Applied Biosystems. This is from the CDC website. ⬇️ 2/
The device itself is pictured below. The manufacturer of the device is Applied Biosystems. Applied Biosystems is a subsidiary of a larger corporation, Thermo Fisher Scientific. ⬇️. 3/
Below is part of an Associated Press article from May 19, 2016 about Trump threatening companies that ship US jobs overseas. It notes Trump did not criticize 2 companies in which he owns stock for their offshoring their jobs. One of them is Thermo Fisher Scientific. ⬇️ 4/
Trump's stock holdings are allegedly in trusts managed by JP Morgan, and seem to be relatively minor compared w/profits from his businesses. But the chart below shows Thermo Fisher has roughly doubled its stock price since Trump was sworn in. ⬇️ 5/
We don't know how much Thermo Fisher stock Trump owns, nor his profits. But given Trump's self-dealing and use of his properties to generate profits at taxpayer expense, it's reasonable (and necessary) to ask if the COVID-19 test fiasco came about so Trump could profit. 6/-end

HR 13, impeachment, has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. That means it's now up to the committee Chair, @RepJerryNadler, whether it goes anywhere. 1/

Nadler is known to favor impeachment personally, but is reportedly holding off A-in deference to Pelosi, who opposes impeachment, and B-get a better idea how much support there is among D's for going forward. 2/
According to the latest nose count by the NY Times, 80 D Reps openly favor impeachment. But FiveThirtyEight.com reports a majority of House D's probably favor impeachment, keeping quiet for fear of getting sideways w/Pelosi. That's what Nadler's dealing with. 3/

So the pro-Trump GOP now says ONLY way the shutdown ends is if TSA agents strike and US air traffic goes down the toilet. The ONLY way. This is what Trump's extremist white nationalism means: wrecking the govt & endangering safety are ok, b/c The Wall. 1/
The Wall isn't about a wall. The Wall, like Pepe, is a symbol, a metaphor in concrete, an idea made of steel & barbed wire. The idea is the United States as a white ethnostate. The idea is blood & soil. The idea is the US turns its back on the world, & cleans house. 2/
And however awful you think the phrase "cleans house" might be, it's far worse, b/c it means exactly what you think. The Wall as idea is about sealing borders & mass deportations to slow demographic change in an America that's no longer a beacon of hope for the world... 3/

CDC claims after they distributed CDC rRT-PCR tests to diagnose COVID-19 to state & local labs, performance issues were identified related to problem in manufacturing 1 of reagents. Labs couldn't verify test performance

CDC now claims they developed new protocol using 2 of the 3 components of original CDC test kit to detect the virus that causes COVID-19 after establishing 3rd component, which was a problem w/ original test, can be excluded without affecting accuracy.

I see 4 reagents. 🧐
CDC is working with FDA to amend existing Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the test, but FDA granted discretionary authority for use of original test kits.
Public laboratories can use original CDC test kit to test for the virus that causes COVID-19 using new protocol.

At this point, with this administration, it's impossible for me to believe that lack of #coronavirus test kits is UNintentional.

donald is gambling. he's shown us his hand:
1. "Virus will disappear"
2. "Flu" kills more
3. Most people have "mild symptoms"
4. Will have a vaccine "very soon"
5. "Gone in April"

These statements, & many more, are being mistaken as ignorance - or disinformation. The latter is true, but the more accurate term is "cover-up".

Just take cards 2 & 3 in the tweet above, & you see his calculation/ gamble.
By not testing, illness & deaths can be dismissed by the admin as flu. He's banking on the mild symptoms & passing of initial outbreak by summer, so that he's in the clear by height of the election cycle. Up to this point, it's an informed gamble. Then, his ignorance kicks in...
