incidentally, today's the 25th anniversary of Panzer Dragoon's Japanese release—you can't buy it digitally as a standalone anywhere, but it is playable on XB1 & X360 as an unlockable bonus game inside Panzer Dragoon Orta microsoft.com/en-us/p/panzer…
the version of Panzer Dragoon I'd recommend nowadays is the Sega Ages 2500 remaster for PS2 ages.sega.jp/vol27/home.html🇯🇵 it was developed by former PD devs & includes an arrange mode w/ higher-poly models & lots of unlockable content including design docs & a dev-commentated replay
(it's not on PSN for PS3 afaik but used copies of the PS2 disc are still relatively cheap, last I checked)

many years ago I tried to ascertain the whereabouts of Gen Suzuki, the director of what might be the best original action game on GBA, Ninja Five-0, only to come up short—573 wasn't talking & his was an extremely common name, so just blindly searching wasn't going to pull up much
now, out of nowhere, I'm pecking away at 573's mobile picross game and I get hit with "thanks for playing! game design by Gen Suzuki", which I was not prepared for

I last remember seeing his name was on an iOS action game called Moon Dancer which has to be well over 10 years old—they explicitly promoted it as "by the creator of Ninja Five-0" because even back then, ppl were wise to that game

of all the heavily licensed JP legacy catalogues out there, Data East's has to be the most under-served—pretty much every reissue over the past 15+ years has been dollar-store fodder, the (surprisingly few) IP revivals haven't been great... those games deserves so much better
my concern with the reissue industry is that all the highest-quality commercial curation, from the M2s and Digital Eclipses and Code Mystics of the world, is put together by people who grew up alongside these catalogs and intuitively love & understand them, but what'll happen (>)
when we reach the point (& in some cases I feel we already have) where the people servicing these games are doing so from a place of generational detachment, taught the craft but not necessarily instilled with the same passion?

Me: In short we are consuming more resources than the Earth's replenishment capacity (unbalancing its natural cycles), polluting more than the Earth's regenerative capacity (causing negative externalities everywhere like loss of biodiversity and plastic accumulation), and...
... we are doing all of this to acquire more money, stuff, GDP growth, and so forth (wrong intent) in an arms race against each other (individuals, companies, states), increasingly distancing ourselves from the natural world by our own abstractions (money, borders, etc).

Today is the birth anniversary of one of the most iconic movie star of all times Bruce Lee. I don't use the word "iconic" often , but Bruce Lee fits it. He created a cult following, around the world, inspired many to take up martial arts, created a whole new genre of cinema.
In the 70s right after Enter the Dragon had released, a common sight in India, was gyms having Bruce Lee's picture. In fact I think he was the first international star to have a massive fan following in India, later on it was Jackie Chan, Arnie and Sly.
The impact of Bruce Lee, goes beyond just cinema, he popularized martial arts in India, matter of fact all over the world. Till then it was more restricted to Asian nations, post Enter the Dragon, every kid, youngster around the world wanted to learn martial arts.

Today is the birth anniversary of Dennis Ritchie, inventor of C and Unix, one of the foremost tech pioneers of his time, and some one who has been my idol, more than that a guru to me, albeit indirectly. One of the greatest influences on my career.
There are people whom I have idolized over the years, who have been influences in my life, to whom I looked up to, but the connect with Dennis Ritchie is different. Being a programmer, he was not just an inspiration, but also a guru of sorts to me.
Ritchie was the reason why I took up programming as a career, the reason why I still write code even 18 years into my profession, when most of my counterparts have gone on to management, and the reason why writing code still continues to be a passion for me.

Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether

Today is the 30th anniversary of the enactment of section 28, a law banning the promotion of homosexuality passed by Thatcher’s government, which blighted my adolescence & that of many young gay people.
S.28 was a nasty bit of legislative queer-bashing, but it is sometimes forgotten that its origins were in the commendable efforts of local authorities, especially those ('loony left') in London, to provide non-homophobic education materials.
The Daily Mail, among others, led campaigns to ‘save the children’ from ‘sordid sex lessons’. One book at the centre of the storm was ‘Jenny Lives With Eric and Martin’, itself perfectly bland and even quite dull.
