A #COVID19 update from suburban Chicago. @amazon Amazon delivery "worker" was in the lobby waiting for the elevator with me.

I asked him if he's an employee of the largest corporation in the world, and he said no, he's a 1099 Independent Contractor.

Gets paid $15.25 an hr.
Has no #PaidSickDays. Was given hand sanitizer by for his van and told to get back to work.

(!!)

So if we're looking for a HUGE hole in our approach to #CoronavirusOutbreak maybe realize that the richest company with the biggest network of "employees" isn't giving their folks
#PaidSickDays while they visit millions of homes and businesses across the state and country.

The perils of the gig economy are real. They leave millions of workers and their customers at risk and continue to deny employees benefits and the minim of social safety net policies.
