Starting Day 13 - today's thread will be brief due to work commitments but I still try to publish important pieces.

Picking up from yesterday.

Short:

- Clerics still trying to figure out whether use of alcohol-based hand washes are OK
- Health authorities expecting the peak in 1 month and then dealing with it for another 2
- Reports that Hassan Nasrollah, Lebanese Hezbollah leader contracted #COVID19 from Iran links
Sadly another nurse, Moloud (Mahrokh) Jafari, succumbed to #COVID19 in Tehran.

Reports of further deaths among the Police and officials:

- Hojjatollah Hassanzadeh, political deputy to Firuzkuh (Tehran province) governor
- Mehdi Ghassemi, ex-Chief Police in Mazandaran province
Ali Motahhari, a conservative but outspoken MP who was disqualified for this term's elections, has demanded people responsible for NOT quarantining Qom to be announced and prosecuted. He says this relatively simple measure could have saved so many lives.

President Rouhani, whom Supreme Leader designated as personally responsible for #COVID19, had a public appearance this morning. You could not say so few using so many words. No policy, no plan - very very disappointing indeed.

My response to the question on ICU equipment:

An important piece of news which went unnoticed is that Health Ministry's representative in Gilan province had requested lockdown for Gilan but after hearing Iran's High Security Council reasoning against, he is satisfied.

He did not share the reason...

Short:

- Governor to Sari, Mazandaran, contracted #COVID19 now in isolation
- Occupancy in Mashhad hotels at 10%
- Iran claims to have made a drug?!
- People have donated protective gears to Langarud hospital in Gilan and stocks are full again!

News from Razi Hospital in Rasht, Gilan

- The extra 80 makeshift beds seems to have massively helped
- Lack of medical staff a big problem
- A number of nurses contracted #COVID19 but decided to stay home instead of hospitalised [not using beds?]

Having said that, this same hospital had 52 DEATHS just yesterday. The morgue is full of bodies. And due to lack of diagnostic equipment, care for complicated cases harder.

Total official deaths reported yesterday was 54 [go figure].

Dr. Seyyed Hossein Falah from Amini Hospital in Langarud, Gilan pleading with the public to stay indoors. He says:

- hospital full
- things are unreal
- This is the beginning, if not controlled, so many will perish

I need to remove a link I posted to Italy from the thread which is surgical.

OK here is the thread, being reconstructed

Surgical reconstruction of the thread done.

Teaches me a lesson to never publish anything on any other country. Once I did it for US and once for Italy and both times they were suspicious and caused a lot of hassle.

Sticking to IRAN. Apologies.
It is very touching and disturbing but this is what #COVID19 looks like.

Dr. Pirhossein Kolivand, Head of Emergency Services in Iran. A few days after contracting the virus in hospital. As you can see not doing great.

[Praying for recovery]

#IMPORTANT An audio file of conversation between two doctors in Golestan province [The doctors could be at risk for exposing info]. He is a chief resident in Sayyad Hospital and gives first-hand account of what he sees:

I will give you a summary:
- The situation is beyond crisis and surreal
- 15-20 deaths everyday
- Cases come in with non-specific symptoms and a bit of fever and no hypoxia. You look at CT or X-ray lungs are heavily affected
- Most cases die within 24 hours after low O2 saturation appears
More:
- Most patients dead have no pre-existing condition
- He said you should just try not catching it
- No elective procedure, yet all beds full of cases
- All doctors just working on #COVID19 flat out. even psychiatrists.
- Morgue full.
More:
- He has seen more than 1000 patients so far
- Patient within 72-96 just becomes critical and then dies
- He says they cannot figure out why some just go to ARDS
- Thinks this has got to have been designed as a weapon
- The only solution is COMPLETE LOCKDOWN
I realised the link I posted to a video showing Iran's Head of Emergency Services has been removed.

Here is another link to the video. You can see he is not doing well.

It is being reported that one of IRGC generals in Syria has died of #COVID19. It had been reported that he was assassinated. Hard to know for sure which one is true.

#BREAKING Iran's Vice President, not seen for at least a week, has contracted #COVID19

A news agency in Iran lists all high profile officials [picture]

Just found out there is a media briefing from @WHO

For those interested in UK spread of #COVID19 there is this website (given the link by a friend):

Let me say this ONCE FOR ALL:

Whether this virus is the result of:
- natural mutation
- lab work gone badly wrong
- bioterrorism
makes absolutely NO DIFFERENCE to what we are meant to do.

Please refrain from discussing for or against any of above under my threads or BLOCKED.
Someone I have known in twitter for a couple of years was an eyewitness to a patient collapse in Pakistan: [we do not know if this was related to #COVID19 but had a recent travel to Iran]

Short:
- MP to Kashan demanding government announcing public holiday
- Gilan governor says medical staff completely worn out we need fresh staff from other provinces
- Saeid Khorshidi, head of Basij (popular mobilisation) in Qazvin state TV died of #COVID19 - picture below
Dr. Mohammad Ghodsi, head of ER/A&E in Razi Hospital in Rasht, Gilan, has been working in the hospital for 20 consecutive days. This is the kind of sacrifice medical staff are putting in.
#COVID19

BBC has a summary on the status of #COVID19 in Iran. Have a look here (3 min video):

In case you need to watch @WHO briefing today, have a look here:

pscp.tv/w/1djxXQkqApVKZ
[due to very very poor streaming by periscope, I ended up using youtube-dl to download the video and watch offline]
This is not a clinic, it is a Bank! Good news the staff are being protected against #COVID19

Short:
- Mohsen Mokarrami, head of inspection of Food and Beauty products in Mazandaran has died of #COVID19
- Dra Khaloo, head of ICU in a hospital in Shiraz has demanded quick action otherwise people will be dying the hospital by the dozens.
Time to leave you. As if #COVID19 wasn't enough for Iran, there are rumours of war now.

If you are intersted in in-depth reading on #COVID19, have a look at Exponential View - a newsletter by @azeem focusing on AI and emerging tech and nowadays #COVID19
