I’m genuinely concerned that a totally frivolous oped like this gets published in the current times when the world is reeling under the effect of a pandemic.
1. Immunity is not quantifiable. It’s not like how can say my hemoglobin level is 12mg/dl. You cannot say “immunity is 98.8 and therefore “toughest”.
2. Even if I live the filthiest place, it DOES NOT give me immunity against the Novel Coronavirus. So to say that “our natural resilience is much stronger than people in the developed world”, and therefore no need to worry over coronavirus makes absolutely no sense.
3. Nothing to panic because “Covid-19 has a mortality rate (MR) of 3.4%” is ridiculous. Given a India’s population, even a 1% mortality rate will be brutal.
4. When people write absolutely frivolous stuff like this about a pandemic, they have no clue how it affects the healthcare system, one which is completely incapable of handling such a load if we do not practice social distancing and slow down the spread.
Let this graph sink in.
5. Even medical experts are humbling claiming to know nothing about this disease and that everyday is a learning. When such is the case, if you are someone without a medical or scientific research background, it would do the world a favour to keep your assumptions to yourself.
6. I was in much anguish after reading such an irresponsible piece. We need to do better, be more responsible towards our community, our country, the world. May better sense prevail.
This is nothing personal against the author, and please do not go about trolling them.
Some typos:
1. It’s not like how I* can say...
5. humbly* claiming
