How can tech help? Many sectors that had been digitizing gradually have now been forced to go fully online before they’re ready.

That includes telemedicine, colleges, K12, conferences, even things like remote sessions of Congress.

Build tools to help these folks.
Another thing to do is to figure out how to mitigate or even arrest the small business armageddon that may hit America if every retail outlet sees demand flatline during quarantines.

Delivery services could help here if they can solve the hygiene issue. Maybe go full autonomous?
Another useful tool would be a global dashboard where anyone who had #COVID19 symptoms but didn’t get a test could at least log whatever info they wanted to make public, to (a) get in line for a test & (b) give us a sense of the possible case count.

The virus is invisible. Massive testing makes it visible. There's a gradation of tests: forehead thermometers, CT scans, PCR.

Once it's visible, you can start demarcating red and green zones, places with more and less virus. Then you let people in green zones out of lockdown.
Basically, lockdown is like hiding from an invisible predator. If we can see the virus, we can avoid it with far less costly steps... like simply staying away from red zones.

Enormous societal investment in many different kinds of diagnosis is cheap relative to lockdown.
Many different kinds of tests, with different costs & speed. We should deploy them all as part of a funnel.

- digital diagnosis (risk based on social network signals)
- wearables
- forehead thermometer
- CT scan
- PCR
- sequencing
- serology (antibodies, after infection)

The virus may be the most dangerous adversary America has ever faced. It's like the US was invaded.

The normal defenses fail. It can't be bombed. Bank accounts can't be frozen. Unbreakable morale. No supply chain. Lives off the land. Infinite reinforcements. Fully decentralized.
The US is protected by the Atlantic and the Pacific. It has ~800 military bases worldwide. Global surveillance. Aircraft carriers, Predator drones, nuclear missiles. Gameplans for terrorism and even the invasion of Canada.

But the virus is asymmetric. It bypasses all of that.
The issue is also the speed. This is a rare true exponential. The virus has no work/life balance, it really does operate 24/7. We can't take the weekend off. It doesn't move at a human pace.

In China, the lockdown order came from above. It was executed by a state run by technocrats, and the population generally bought in.

In the US, lockdown is a bottom-up push from social media. The state isn't run by technocrats, the population isn't fully bought in.
Put another way, American lockdown is a clone of what Italy did, which is a clone of what China.

But in the language of a product manager, if you just clone a feature in isolation you might miss a bunch of details that make it work in one context but not as well in another.
So, we should know *exactly* what the Chinese did, and determine which of those features are compatible with our ethics and which are not, and then execute.

The Donald McNeil clip on Maddow the other day gives a good overview of what the Chinese did.

There are REASONS why online courses have higher DWF (drop/withdraw/fail) rates. One huge reason is that these courses can feel impersonal. Another is a lack of feeling accountable. Anything we as instructors can do to the improve the affective element of the course is critical.
I make many choices in my online courses to humanize the student experience. One key element of my #pedagogy is to respond to students' work via screencasting. Screencasting allows students to hear my voice and see my screen as I am grading their papers/digital projects.

I woke up with my blood boiling at 4am so I’m gonna make some tea and put words to my whirlwind of thoughts. Not sure if it’ll be a thread or a blog. We’ll see. 2019 marks the 10th year since my first game was released on iOS. I have a lot of thought.
First with the positive: in December 2009, “Plushed” was released as a paid platformer on iOS. I had so many credits on this simple game the producer refused to add in “writer” because there was too many roles under my name already. This little game became Game of The Week.
I saw my art as a banner on the US iTunes store. We garnered over 400k downloads and the game was 5$ at launch. I was the lead game designer (made a GDD from scratch), lead art/concept artist, level designer and writer on this silly little game. Here: dinadraws.com/plushed

Dear @FBI @FBITampa I'm Richard. They lied under subpoenas to hide the tampered jail call.
@FBI @FBITampa I asked and fought so hard for the call. PG, the PD evaded, dodged, threatened, tried to make deals to avoid pulling the call once the case blew up the smear. I have all the emails. I had to call the jail to confirm calls. All on my pin. I called my sister. Once on another pin.
@FBI @FBITampa The jail confirmed the calls. It wascut short. Why lie under a subpoena? Honest mistake? The pin was the tell. Intimidation. The cold cased my mother case on Facebook the same day.
