COVID-19 Thread.

I am NOT a Doctor.
I am an RN who also assists with a Community Call-In Line which screens symptoms and educates on the Corona Virus. This is information I have put together & am sharing. I recommended calling your MD for confirmation if symptoms apply to you.
Concerned about the Corona Virus? Ask yourself these questions:

1. Have I traveled to any of the known affected geographic areas in the past 14 days?

2. Have I had close contact with a person known to have the Corona Virus illness?

3. Do I have a fever greater than 100?
4. Do I have a cough?

5. Do I have shortness of breath?

If your answer to all of these are no your are not considered at risk. If any of these answers are yes, (with or without travel history) continue below...
If you have respiratory symptoms but no fever/fever < 2 days, no shortness of breath it’s advised you stay home, use good hand hygiene (20 seconds soap & water) & coughing etiquette. Monitor temp 2x daily. If you develop fever or shortness of breath lasting 2 days call your MD.
Staying home and practicing good hand hygiene & coughing etiquette (along with no sharing off food/fluid) is recommended any time you are sick and can potentially infect others.
I want to emphasize if shortness of breath does not improve with rest and you feel like you are having difficulty breathing I recommend calling 911.
If you have a fever of 101.5 or higher x2 days WITHOUT shortness of breath it is recommended that you call your MD.
If you are already Immunocompromised or Diabetic with no fever but do have respiratory symptoms x2 days it is recommended that you call your MD.
If you have a fever greater than 100 WITH shortness of breath it is recommended that you go to the ER for evaluation. It is also recommended that you call ahead to inform them of your symptoms and a staff member can potentially meet you outside with a mask.
Emergency Rooms will assess you and determine if you should be tested for COVID-19. Testing is approved by the Department of Public Health and will not be done if you do not meet the criteria.
It is recommended that you avoid large gatherings. These gatherings tend to not provide the recommended social space of 6 feet and indoor gatherings can also have less ventilation.
If you have any symptoms it is recommended that you limit your exposure to others.
Exposure to someone symptomatic does not mean you will become symptomatic. Concerned exposure has been defined as less than 6 feet away for 3 minutes or longer with someone who has tested positive.
The Department of Public Health is tracking all positive cases and will be contacting those believed to have been exposed as necessary.
The Center for Disease Control is also tracking cases and is updating state by state cases (volume) information regularly on their website.
Your local hospitals may also have information on their websites that may be helpful for you.
As new cases are evolving information and guidelines can change. The Center for Disease Control is a good resource for any updated information as it happens.
I am more than happy to share any updates I receive. But I just want to be clear that these are recommendations based on experiences of myself and healthcare agencies following current local Department of Public Health guidelines.
