The entire American #immigrationcourt system is closed and all cases other than those of people in ICE custody will be rescheduled.

Next: release ICE detainees.

Let's drop the pretense that these people being held on civil immigration charges are any real danger to the public.
As of now:

USCIS: closed

#IMMIGRATIONCOURTS: closed for all but detained cases

CONSULATES: many closing to the public

ICE (actual quote): "We just have to continue to go with the same game plan that we've been doing."

This is a thing that is going to happen. And the facilities will, in many cases, be far less prepared than they are now.

Things @CBP is doing right now:

-holding migrant families in "iceboxes"
-forcing border-crossers through deadliest routes
-sending snipers to #sanctuarycities enforce non-criminal deportation orders

Things CBP is not doing:
-effectively screening incoming travelers for #COVID19
CBP has the largest immigration enforcement apparatus IN THE WORLD and could easily refocus all of its efforts on this and nothing else. Protecting us from contagious disease is one of the only reasons that they arguably need to exist at all, and they are simply refusing to do it
History will try to understand where our national priorities were if not this, and this is the answer: torturing innocent Central American families before deporting them back to spread #COVID19 to their own countries

-total moratorium on all deportations

Boston is a major nexus for this pandemic. Stop making people come here, and stop sending them out.

None of this is worth it.
As noted in the story, the Boston #immigrationcourt is where non-citizens from RI, NH, VT, ME, and eastern MA are required to report for removal hearings upon pain of automatic deportation if they fail to appear. It's a perfect vector for spreading this all over New England.

There's a lot that's parallel about then and now. Sanders' platform is similar to Rev. Jackson's back then, while Biden is winning a lot of the states Jackson won in '84 and especially 1988 when he did so well they had to bargain with him at the convention a la DNC post-2016.
In 1988 Jackson won the primaries in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, Virginia and D.C and the caucuses in (ironically) Delaware, Michigan, South Carolina and Vermont. He won 11 contests total and nearly 7 million votes. (In '84 he won LA, SC, DC, VA & MS).
Because he had so many delegates but the Dems didn't want to put him on the ticket, they instead offered to give future primary contests proportional instead of winner-take-all, which ultimately is what allowed Barack Obama to grab a delegate lead in 2008 and hold it vs Hillary.

As the WHO announces that we should prepare for a pandemic, a rare bit of political commentary from me, a disease biologist who moved from the UK to the USA.

Universal healthcare is the single greatest thing the US could do to improve its pandemic preparedness. #MedicareForAll
Both of my parents worked their entire lives in the NHS. I grew up in one of the world's leading, if strained, nationalised universal health systems. I know better than most how far from ideal and imperfect it is. But I would take it every time over the system here in the US.
I have a good job, with great healthcare. I am an intelligent man with plenty of free time. I am single and not supporting a family. Yet I cannot for the life of me understand my care in this country. I have delayed treatments because of costs.

It is far worse for many others.

5. Increase NHS funding by 29% by 2023
6. No reduction of tuition fees but focus on interest rates to reduce burden on students

Let's look at the facts. Center for American Progress has a quick guide as part of this article:

I suppose that's as close as anyone gets to universal single-payer. So that's one (1).

"In Denmark, regions own and run hospitals, but reimburse private physicians and charge substantial coinsurance for dental care and outpatient drugs."

Not single-payer, and with "substantial coinsurance" for certain medical necessities, so not zero-out-of-pocket either.
