Again, some more thoughts on the rise of remote work with #COVIDー19 . A thread...
Companies who are fully remote or very remote friendly (like @ConvertKit , @basecamp, @zapier ) are likely seeing their investment into remote work validated, as their work is (mostly) unaffected with what is currently going on.
The large tech players (Apple, Amazon, Google, Twitter, Microsoft etc.) have shifted towards remote work for the time being. Who knows if it will be weeks, or even months on that front.
With that said, I wonder if:

a) Organizations realize how well letting employees work remote works.

&

b) How many employees realize how much they enjoy working remote and want that flexibility to continue.
I'm not saying that when things return to normal that organizations are just going to go 100% remote all the time, but going forward, I hope to see more organizations offer that flexibility of remote work.
Of course, not all businesses can justify remote work, but for most office jobs, I hope to see organizations realize that a number of roles can work remotely, looking beyond software developers.
I like to think of myself as an optimist, but on a realist side, I can also see a number of organizations refusing to move forward with allowing for more remote work.

Why?
I sadly think that a lot of middle-management & micro-managers (usually the same person) will double down to have people in the office so they can be in control, appear busy, justify their roles.

Even if they realize how well things worked remotely.
In the end though, when things return back to normal, look to what the big tech companies (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Twitter, Microsoft etc.) do with remote work afterwards.
Companies LOVE to copy what these big tech companies do. Sadly, this is much to their own detriment, like a small startup feeling they need a 96.5-step interview process because Google does that.
With that said, I think an organization offering more remote flexibility because they see companies like Google doing that is a good thing to copy.
Again, to be clear, I'm not saying companies move to all remote all the time.

A lot of people prefer the office for work, and there's just some work that is so much better when you're face to face.
Still, offer that flexibility gives you the best of both worlds.
