Despite many hoping that the deadly novel #coronavirus disease #COVID19 would fade away as the summer sets in, it has continued to spread across the globe in March.

Now, researchers involved in the study of the virus suggest that it is likely to survive the summer in India, and reemerge after mercury levels fall.

Based on the earlier strains of #coronavirus, many assumptions have been made about the new coronavirus’ ability—or lack thereof—to survive in places with warmer climates and higher temperatures.

Hence, a slight decline in the contagiousness of COVID-19 may be observed come summer, but the transmission of the virus will nevertheless remain very possible.

The prevalence of the infection in Australia, a country that just experienced its peak summer season, provides proof of this very fact.

Therefore, experts advise that instead of hoping for favourable weather conditions, it is more important to continue taking essential steps towards curbing new infections—prevent mass gatherings, and shut down public spaces till the outbreak persists.

Meanwhile, scientists also fear that the novel coronavirus may establish itself within the population, and become an endemic virus, i.e. characteristic or native to the population.
