I am based in Kreuzberg in Berlin, and live next to Gleisdreieck Park

Looking out of the window into the park right now I can see
- 3 twenty-somethings drinking 🍻 on the grass
- 4 teenage kids playing ⚽️
- 3 women doing some outdoor 🏋️‍♂️

Now theoretically all of those people *might* live together, and *might* keep 2 metres distance from anyone else in the park, and *might* wash their hands, and *might* not be carriers...

...but it does not look like they are actually practicing physical distancing

As an individual I can use Gleisdreieck Park and be conscious of others through physical distancing - indeed I have 🚲 through it to the supermarket

I could also go 🏃‍♂️💨 there quite safely (i.e. avoiding anyone spreading to me, and avoiding spreading to anyone)

But what I do, and what others practicing self isolation and physical distancing can do, is going to be limited if a large number of others are not doing the same

I do wonder (although I'm not sure) whether better explanation and communication of what physical distancing *means* in practice might be a way around this

You can't avoid going near your own kids, but your kids go near other kids, who have been near... you get the idea

(FWIW for the past week I have been only at home, only with the person I live with (who's behaving likewise), and keeping a minimum of 2m distance from anyone I encounter - at a supermarket for example - and limiting all those interactions as much as possible)

Which then brings us back to lockdowns.

If you cannot count on people to practice physical distancing (even in a place like a park where that ought not be too hard) and if people with Coronavirus are infecting at least 2 or 3 others... then do you actually in the end have any option other than lockdown?
