Meggitt makes oxygen systems for aircraft, while Airbus is expected to bring its expertise in 3D printing.

Looks like we are going to get ventilators that’ll make you fly.
At least one of them makes medical devices - Renishaw - but not ventilators as far as I can see.
Breas (that does make ventilators in the U.K. ) is stepping up production and Penlon that makes anaesthesia machines with ventilators has 700 ready to go IF they are suitable for this purpose.

Chinese studies: CV19 sheds virus particulars for 20 days, both transmitting pre and post symptoms, suggesting quarantine periods may need to be longer raising new containment challenges.

Ingrained hand washing & hygiene measures particularly important.

Answering one of my questions, it seems that those given anti viral medication, did not reduce the period of the virus shedding.

This may mean that anti virals should be administered for longer.
It is estimated that 44% of transmissions occur before the infected person displays symptoms.

Contact tracing and isolation alone unlikely to be successful at containment, hence the need for social distancing an excellent hygiene

It is therefore a very different demographic to Italy. BUT South Korea learned from the hard experience of MERS in 2015 where they realised they had to contain the spread early on and that needed both diagnostic testing and systematic tracing plus quarantine

And they were ready
Not only had they had a very hard experience from MERS but that led to a systematic review and action plan ready should another such outbreak occur. It felt real.
And they tested it.

And corrected it

And realised in December that neighbouring China might have something similar

1/100 Let's talk about globalization! It has "global" right there in the name, so it's obviously about every country. But really, globalization is about just one country. Unfortunately, we don't know which one. Either America or China, for very different reasons.
2. Globalization is synonymous with America in the sense that it describes how the world changed from 1946 onward, i.e. after America conquered all of the world except a weird communist rump state, which inevitably collapsed.
3. Not only did communism collapse due to internal contradictions, but it only survived due to *external* contradictions. The Soviets were sucking serious wind in the 70s, and managed to get back on their feet by selling oil. (Much more on oil and globalization to come...)

A fantastic thread on specific examples of breeding applicable interdisciplinarity.

In fact, I think we can go further, and designers can help.
There's a trend here.

In a lot of different environments, designers are realizing there's useful and powerful theories, insights, and communities from disciplines they never considered; and there happens to be a reactionary clash from the communities who live in that space.
We have an opportunity here.

Sometimes that clash is valuable, because it offers space for people to acknowledge, voice, and catalyze a community to make their knowledge known.

But sometimes, we can connect without friction, and towards a collective goal.

Good morning🦋 Korea 1st 20-day of exports FALL -11.7% YoY Y semiconductor exports CONTRACTED -33%.

That said, there is some silver lining - car exports rose +12.6%.

No V-shaped recovery here. Contraction deepening & it's not just Korea - Taiwan warned us that May'll be worse🤢
On top of sector-specific issues, excessive investment in previous years, weak global demand for phones etc, we have to remember that semiconductor is at the heart of trade-war & Korea is a key global supplier of semiconductor.

Not all is loss: US-China tensions also create ops.
So when people talk about H2 2019 recovery for the sector, you have to ask, are we talking about July 2019 or more like December 2019 because other than a favorable base, what are the drivers of an upturn in early H2 2019?
