This latest launch does not look like #NorthKorea "super large calibre" MRLS

While it has demonstrated 380 km range it required a more ballistic trajectory of 97 km in order to achieve it.

2 “projectiles” into the East Sea from #NorthKorea.
2019 is the year launches come into twos, it would seem. Candidates for this launch among the known new systems tested this year include the KN23, NK ATACMS, 400 mm MLRS, & 600 mm MLRS.
That’d be confirmed “projectiles” #18 and #19 for 2019. (Possibly #19 & #20, but there’s some question about whether the May 4 test included two KN23s.)

#NorthKorea’s most recent missile launch sends a sharp message: KN23 ideal to range the US THAAD missile defense site in Seongju, South Korea, if launched at a different azimuth with the same range.
Taking out/overwhelming missile defense installations in the South would be a core early-war objective for the KPA. The KN23, which we’re letting them test as a “very standard” SRBM, provides a very nice capability for that mission.
Increasingly clear that the problem the KN23 poses for allied missile defense isn’t concerning radar evadability, but gaps in interceptor coverage. 1/x

#NorthKorea has published #KimJongUn take on what happened in Hanoi. He positions himself as the rational, flexible person in US-DPRK #nuclear negotiations. Essentially says US team came unprepared & disorganized. #KCNA
Kim: “In a word, the U.S. did not ready itself to sit face to face with us and settle the problem nor had a clear direction and methodology.” So Kim’s getting a taste for how things work these days in the White House.
While including the usual threats & pinning blame for Hanoi breakdown on US, Kim does make clear he’s open to negotiation. That means signaling this week from @TheBlueHouseENG @TheWhiteHouse paid off. #Kim got the assurance he needed that #NorthKorea remains priority for #Trump.
