Keep in mind, they didn't know covid-19 was contagious. Meanwhile in america, the government had advance knowledge of how infectious the virus is and senators used that information to make money on the stock market while telling their citizens that everything was gonna be ok.
Also, the doctor, Li Wenliang, wasn't killed or imprisoned, they made him sign a letter apologizing for spreading false information. Again, this was a bad thing to do, but it's nowhere near the coordinated whistleblower silencing campaign people in my mentions think it was.
The bad things the Chinese government did were in the context of a completely new disease, and once they had better information they responded accordingly. The US government had the right information months in advance and used it to make a profit.
