Having a conversation about the economic effects on real people of taking aggressive public health measures is a fine conversation.

But that’s not what’s really happening.

When Trump says “economy”, its possible he means “stock market.”

And even the stock market won’t improve with rash action that defies how every country has had success has done it. But the stock market going up matters to some people a lot more than others.

Most of us care about wages. And a good economy and job re-emerging.

That happens by acting sensibly. Opening businesses when they’re ready.

What does ready mean?

Ready means having sufficient testing, temperature checks, limited capacity, and a gradualness. This will bring back jobs & spare lives.

And as for the stock market...

I’m not going to say it doesn’t matter at all. But it rises and falls based on sentiment and signals. So rising for a few days only benefits people trading stocks every day.

And in the scheme of people who we should be prioritizing, day traders aren’t on the list. If the list were 10 pages long, they wouldn’t be on the list.

Do it right. Do it once. Do it wrong and there are a small number of winners and everyone else loses.
And the country people are trying to save won’t be saved. It would need to be rebuilt from the bottom up.
