My husband just left for his shift in the ICU, working with COVID19 patients.

When frontline healthcare workers start getting sick and dying, that means that less experienced healthcare workers have to jump into the breach.

If you don't want to be intubated by someone who has seen one but never done one and certainly couldn't teach one, please stay home.
This is what the storeroom at my husband's hospital looks like right now.

They are set for about a week because of you, but other facilities are really suffering.

So, I'm taking his hospital off the list and am rerouting all new donations to facilities in dire need. 4/

#coronvirus update from Seattle, (well, our house, anyway), for those of you who asked how we're doing: my son's school STILL isn't closed and it's pissing me off. I kept him home on Monday but he was nervous about missing too many classes so I sent him the last 2 days.1/
My husband is feeling better and heading back to work. I am self-quarantining for 2 reasons: I don't want to get anyone else sick with whatever I've got, and I have a compromised immune system, so getting anything on top of what I've got could kill me. No bueno. 2/
Shit is getting real in Seattle. One of the biggest school districts (Northshore) is closing for 14 days. Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, and other big companies are telling their workers to stay home and telecommute. 3/

Here’s what I wish everyone knew about #covid-19, especially young people who believe they are “low risk”.
1) “I’m not at risk” – everyone is at risk from the #coronavirus, and even young and healthy people can end up on a ventilator in an intensive care unit with this disease
2) “There’s no chance I have it” – you can’t know this without taking a test. The symptoms can be very mild, such as a runny nose or sore throat, and many people may not even get symptoms at all

Today marks a turning point in the #Coronavirus #COVID19 response in Canada.

Our public health leaders are truly adapting in a meaningful way to the @WHO announcement this week that this has become a #pandemic.
This announcement means that there is no doubt that Coronavirus is coming to our communities, and our focus is shifting. Public health is still working toward preventing as many cases as possible, but we also need to come to grips with the fact that many of us will be affected.
(Though for the record, claims that up to 70% of people in Canada could be affect are simply wrong. Worst case scenario is the Spanish Flu of 1919. Infected ~30% of the worlds population. We are a much healthier world than we were in the wake of WWI. It's just not happening.)

1. Public Health and your personal health are not the same thing. The health of individuals and the health of the population are interdependent, but the strategies are different. The response to coronavirus (covid-19) in King County is a public health response.
The goal is to protect the community as a whole. Your role as an individual is to do your small part to cooperate in the larger project, for the good of the whole community. Think of it as part of your civic duty. A war effort without the war.
