People are understandably focused on big cities like Seattle, New Orleans, NYC right now but I'm worried that we have very little understanding of the scope of the threat in rural America, which is less likely to expeditiously get the resources required to manage their outbreaks
Obviously rural America is dramatically less dense, but the virus appears to spread most acutely within households. And rural Americans might be viewing this as a city-specific problem, and therefore not observing social distancing at the store, church, etc.
As I said yesterday, the infection rate in the small rural town of Lander, WY is roughly the same as New York City and the infections in Lander could be a result of a single person bringing the virus in. Much harder to reach a testing site in these places, as well.
