It stands to reason that Trump can’t effectively order the economy to accelerate unless he gains the confidence of people who decided to slow it down for safety’s sake. Americans outside his lunatic base would have to be persuaded and he’s offering less than nothing to that end.
Suppression of experts and info, failures of execution, lavish unfulfilled promises, and unrealistic happy talk are hallmarks of the WH-led approach to the crisis. It hasn’t improved the fundamental economic problem—this horrible disease—and I wouldn’t expect it to in future.
What might help is real measures to build people’s confidence that it’s safe for them to resume normal life—getting the DPA process going at full scale to so that doctors and hospitals visibly have sufficient resources, massive expansion of testing incl testing for immunity, etc.
