A few new graphs on US #COVID19 testing:
1. I've annotated @JoeHasel's important @OurWorldInData graph ourworldindata.org/grapher/cumula… that compared S Korea vs US. Both countries had 1st patient Dx w/in 24 hrs in Jan. For ~50 days there was very little US testing, the spread phase 1/3
2. In @nytimes on the US surge

what is missed is all of February when there were a grand total of 352 US tests vs >75,000 in S Korea
Meanwhile people broadly getting infected in the US but no ability to diagnose (or even suspect) @LazaroGamio @adeelnyt 2/3
3. And this March graph which also gives the misimpression on theUS surge, although not normalized (R panel). The key omission is timeline from Jan 21, 1st patient. And it's very likely there were people in the US infected in December, but missed before Seattle kicked in 3/3

This was at Genalyte, a SanDiego company which has been doing immunoassays on such chips for several years, now adapted to #COVID19 in past 2 weeks.
I have no relationship (COI) 2/x
The number of proteins and antibodies that are assayed is pretty formidable including the #COVID19 spike peptide, the nuclear capsule (E coli and HEK), SARS, along with IgG and IgM antibodies. This can be displayed in real-time as the assays are in progress 3/x

A very simple curve that tells a tragic story
1. China w/ 4 times the population of the US was able to flatten their curve
2. The US has now blown thru China's case N (tip of the iceberg d/t no testing for 2 months) to be the #COVID19 epicenter
3. The worst is yet to come
the denialism of this simple curve and our (US) lack of learning from a region that was hit months before us is striking
the same people who are assailing Fauci now

Language re #covid law, ethics, policy is wooly/confusing. What is #SocialDistancing Mass #Quarantine #Lockdown? We can't possibly balance PH & HRs w/o knowing exactly the intervention. This thread explains what policies are ethical & lawful, & those that are troublesome.

❖ Isolation: positive #SARSCoV2 test
❖ Quarantine: known exposed
❖ Close venues posing sig risk of spread (schools, businesses, mass gatherings)
These actions stretch law/ethics, no clear precedent in modern con law:
❖Cordon sanitaire of large area (incorrectly termed "lockdown")
❖So-called "Mass Quarantine" of large venue (nursing home, cruise ship, apartment block)
❖Draconian enforcement: armed guards, intrusive surv
