1/ Jill’s points are all well taken. As I discussed, people must not be released from jails & prisons absent provision for a 14 day quarantine to insure they don’t carry the virus home & long term resources-housing, medical care etc. I echo her concerns about how Trump would
2/ implement releases but the pandemic poses severe risks to people who are incarcerated in overcrowded facilities & to the men & women who go to work there every day & return home to their families. We can’t do nothing. We must have a smart, fair approach here.
3/ And, many thanks to @AliVelshi & his team, who were willing to raise this issue for public consideration. It’s not always popular to advocate for incarcerated people but DOJ has an obligation to protect people in federal custody as do the states for theirs.
