1/2 Bureau of Prisons, state prisons, local jails all need plans for Coronavirus. They should already be in place & fully transparent. This tweet regards a fed'l facility but based on DOJ's 2019 report, conditions in Alabama's state prisons put their entire population at risk.
2/2 DOJ opened its investigation of Alabama's prisons to determine, in part, if conditions were sanitary. In April 2019, they concluded the answer was no. The state has done nothing, in almost a year, to fix its problems. Now, every incarcerated person is at risk.
Anyone who is low risk & in pre-trial detention because they cannot afford to pay for release (ie, they haven't been convicted) should be released. Echoing others on this. No one should receive a death sentence for writing a bad check or selling a small amount of marijuana.
