I read this and I want to commend @innosonmotors for their patriotism and demonstration of responsibility. I however don’t know the response gotten if any from Govt quarters. I know also that globally GM, Ford and Tesla made same efforts but have soon realized the challenges...
...ranging from the complicated design of the ventilator machines, partnership agreements and patent approvals by original manufacturers & in Nigeria the political hurdle to get Govt to act in the interest of the people rather than feeling they are enriching another.
I’m sure not many people are familiar with Ventilators in Nigeria. It is not even in any of the pictures of the facilities donated by corporate sectors to our isolation centres currently being prepared. These are machines sold to hospitals via trade shows & sales calls...
...they are like the fancy news cars with all the latest technology in the medical sector. Some even come with central monitoring capability, redundant systems (in case of power failure), additional alarms, silent mode etc.
It is not just about the hardware by the way. They come with softwares that has been documented & validated 50 times more than almost any other software on the planet. So it is a fully integrated environment you don’t just dabble into without preparedness for the long run.
Innosson knows that for Nigeria to win the war against COVID-19, we may not be able to sustain the expense and time necessary to procure fancy ventilators but begin to build cheaper equipment that healthcare centers can own in numbers ahead for the deluge of cases approaching.
One that needs no complex intermittent upgrade in order to keep developmental cost low and stay true to its purpose which is mainly accessibility to compliment the services of complex facilities at the major laboratories of @NCDCgov.
There are rarely impossibilities with innovative leadership. I read once that in 1983 an american engineer and his team created an eye surgery machine to drive a pioneering cutter design. The machine was used to remove biological materials that made people blind.
It was both te hy and crude and used both electricity and compressed air (common in well equipped hospitals) just in case the electrical power was intermittent, the machine would continue to function. The vierectomy machines were used in specialized surgical centers globally.
A few were donated to very poor rural clinics in China then but because of the need for more some Chinese folks rigged a bicycle pump hooked up to a stationary bike to provide compressed air. Efficiency was attenuated but it did the job across hospitals that didn’t get the actual
Each locally made machine was used to restore the vision of dozens to hundreds of people in the hands of skilled, dedicated Chinese surgeons. The majority of people got to see again & a few didn’t due to complications. But without that intervention everyone would have been blind.
This is actually the prayers of Innoson motors to Nigeria Govt and @Fmohnigeria towards our immediate need for the war against COVID-19. Paucity of funds is a dire issue in Nigeria we know this. Thus, the need for strategic partnership if the orders are there.
Auto manufacturers globally seeking to help need to partner with medical companies and tap their experienced engineering, quality, and stock resources. This will ensure the avoidance of rookie blunders and unnecessary injuries while saving huge costs. We need the job done!
Right about now if the truth is to be told, we will know that Nigeria is more or less on its own. Every country is ramping up production to protect its own first before considering exports. I wouldn’t advise we wait for China. We can groom our own at home for the long haul.
Ventilator companies also need to ramp up their production of intubation sets for standards purposes and the need to follow or adhere strictly to established sterilization protocols to avoid another disaster in the making. This is a war and we seem not to be armed.
Just in case we need a reminder of what is going on globally 👉🏽 businessinsider.com/elon-musk-vent…
One thing is peculiar here, these machines were not built by Tesla, Elon Musk used his connections in China and possibly other countries to purchase these off the shelf. People like him are heroes but here we seek & investigate motive in good deeds. bbc.com/news/technolog…
When we were almost despondent about the culture of impunity by the @PoliceNG many have accepted this as a fate knowing how complex and difficult this path was to chart. @SIAF_NG took up that challenge via a rare multilayered approach that got that job done at least for starters.
We didn’t wait until all laws were in place but started with orientation, direct engagement and intervention. A campaign that is now over its third year. Of course it is very expensive but can anything beat the fixing of the future of all our children & generations to come?
3years after we are not where we used to be. We didn’t wait for a messiah but started exercising leadership from where we are and water if finding its level each day. We have a Police Trust Fund Bill now signed into Law awaiting a board to implement & monitor.
The PoliceReformBill is on the way of not for Coronavirus break that necessitates a lockdown for all our safety. So we can actually do this and build formidably without having to break the bank in order to sustain imports of delicate machines. This is not to say we won’t buy now.
This is a game of influence, credibility and goodwill. Nigerian authorities are still playing political games with procurement and avoiding influential individuals of repute that they believe they can’t control at the expense of human lives. I hope they #TakeResponsibility

End
There are many Nigerian Elon Musks out there seeking innovative solutions & looking out for the village of vulnerables under an unconscionable Govt that sees itself as the despotic owner of the country. They are ready to help but will they let them before the body count begins?
A facility without ventilators is just a holding facility in the war against #COVID19. We no doubt need to order as much as possible in the interim but there must be a plan to work out a sustain plan to produce local solutions that we can spread easily for accessibility.
I may be wrong but this is an example of leadership in this regard based on the advisory I just highlighted in this thread. 👉🏽cnbc.com/2020/03/27/tru…
