The rules within the Military are far more stringent than the moralistic ideals of the civil society. In as much as the General was showing empathy and commitment to his team by reporting in situ, such video ought to have been a confidential report to the chain of command.
People like you and I will applaud him for doing the needful and aligning with his conscience but this will not be without repercussion. He is neither the Army spokesperson nor the media representative reporting LIVE to the public. There’s a rule guiding this at @HQNigerianArmy
He is a general and must have weighed his options and consequences before the deed was done. Usually there would have been a court marshal before any punitive measure is given to serve as deterrent to others that may try this in future. For me I believe it confirms a few theories

Yes indeed there may have been a sabotage within the chain and there may be a possibility of the video being leaked but if there were no video, there really wouldn’t be anything to leak neither would there be a proof of the situation in real terms. So he’s damned either way.
His reportage majorly from my assessment was to show leadership to his boys and also to prove to his superiors that they stood their grounds having been outgunned. All this could’ve earned him a medal but something happened in the chain that turned it all awry.
