Of the 10,645 deaths registered in the week ending 20 March, 103 mentioned #COVID-19 on the death certificate ow.ly/iY4Z50z0FhI
By looking at registrations up to March 25 we’re able to provide data on deaths that occurred in the same week (14-20 March).

This shows there were 181 deaths related to #COVID19 ow.ly/Q73g30qu3l5

Our #COVID19 figures differ from those reported by @DHSCgovuk because of different reporting methods and timing
.@ONS weekly deaths involving #COVID19 figures are based on deaths registered in the stated week and include all deaths where “COVID-19” was mentioned on death certificates.
Government figures are based on deaths occurring to date among hospital patients who have tested positive for #COVID19.

These figures are valuable because they are available quickly and give an indication of what is happening daily.
Their definition is also clear, so the limitations of the data can be understood. But they won’t necessarily include all deaths involving #COVID19, such as those in a care home.
Our numbers are slower to prepare, because they have to be certified by a doctor, registered and processed. But once ready, they are the most comprehensive. Read our statement ow.ly/kgQz30qu3xY
