[2/7] From utopic and fringe scenarios in the early 2000’s, 100% #RenewableEnergy scenarios are now widespread, with academic discussion shifting from general feasibility issues to specific assumptions. Also thanks to work from Jacobson, Breyer, Brown, …

#ScientistsForFuture
[3/7] Regarding spatial resolution: for global, regional, and less detailed models, it is important to calibrate in a sufficient manner to avoid over-simplified answers with little to no real insights.

Key limitation: computational limits of very detailed scenarios.
[4/7] Regarding temporal resolution: including ramping constraints is as important as replicating seasonality and inner daily dynamic for producing realistic results.

Key limitation: perfect foresight assumption in most energy system models not very realistic
[5/7] Regarding cost: cost-optimal share of #RenewableEnergy varies across sectors, but these “optimal” shares are underestimated if fossil fuels externalities are not considered in the model cost assumptions.
[6/7] Regarding relevance: including policy-relevant variables, such as employment, in the modelling framework can help decision-makers to understand the consequences of the #transition beyond the technological energy system
[7/7] No-regret options insights from 100%RE scenarios:

✅Reduce energy demand with behavioural and technical solutions
✅Invest in RE Industry jobs
⛔️Stop investment in fossil fuels as soon as possible
✅Weaken the fossil fuel regime by supporting new actors and technologies
