Key limitation: perfect foresight assumption in most energy system models not very realistic
[5/7] Regarding cost: cost-optimal share of #RenewableEnergy varies across sectors, but these “optimal” shares are underestimated if fossil fuels externalities are not considered in the model cost assumptions.
[6/7] Regarding relevance: including policy-relevant variables, such as employment, in the modelling framework can help decision-makers to understand the consequences of the #transition beyond the technological energy system

The data we have (from @VividSeats) is truly incredible. In every county, we have a record of the share of concert/etc ticket sales that fall into each genre in 2015/19. Here's that map (with each county scaled for population). Cities like rap/hip hop. Rural areas like country.
The music genre that most correlates with Republican vote share is, as you might expect, country music. A preference for "New Age" music (whatever that is) and Rock are also "red". Rap, Hip Hop & R&B, as mentioned, are "blue" music—as is liking alternative artists or Latin music.

@kvijayraghavan @PrinSciAdvGoI @DSTCPRIISc Knowledge has been the driver of social and economic change. Around 54% of our industry workforce is not skilled. This is not good for a knowledge-based economy. Rural reach is also key to bridge the Rural-Urban divide (India and Bharat).
Research is necessary for a knowledge-based society. 95% of our students go to a state university, where very little research is done! Research is not focussed on our issues and import heavy! There is a need to scale up local resources for conducting research.

OFGEM - the UK Government's energy regulator - are the biggest obstacle to making full use of #Scotland's #renewable #energy resources.

Energy policy is reserved to the UK Government, so there's absolutely nothing the Scottish Government can do about #Ofgem.

Here's a BBC article where Ofgem have supposedly given the "green light" for the first ever grid connection to Shetland.

(Believe it or not, we're in 2019 and the UK has never bothered to connect #Shetland to the National Grid.)

Unfortunately, approval for the grid connection to Shetland is conditional on the UK Government funding a wind farm project there, which will in turn be conditional on being able to transmit power to the National Grid.

Hi guys! @AtteHarjanne and me just published a paper "Abandoning the concept of #renewable #energy" at Energy Policy. In it, we argue that the concept of #renewableenergy (RE) is outdated. 1/

What we argue here is that using what is basically a 1970s-era definition of renewable energy, and conflating "renewable" with "sustainable" or even "clean," is becoming more a hindrance than a help in meeting the main challenge of the early 2000s - #climatechange . 2/
We argue that the concept of RE was largely set in stone well before the magnitude of #climate challenge, and actual problems with some sources that are technically renewable, was understood. This has resulted to, e.g., using the "renewable" label to cover all bioenergy. 3/
