Much debate on #SciComm. Little formal guidance exists. Those on academic committees that oversee ethics & professionalism are unfamiliar with social media. And now we are in a crisis and #pandemic of many levels. #publichealth very different from industry (1st vs rest).

In comparison, industry guidance #SoMe guidance. Industry has a lot more experience with this and uses it for marketing, market share, customer outreach, customer brand recognition, brand management. The focus is prestige, optics, reputation - there are monetizable traits.

Most credible of & experienced are vilified & disregarded
On right: “deep state”
On left: “white man” = distrust
So the usual image of “authority” invokes anger/disgust

We have a new generation of doctors like @DrJCoftheDC whose mission-driven #SciComm makes savvy & strategic use of all platforms from #TikTok, blog, OpEds & gets coverage across all news outlasts from @foxnation to @CNN & even Indonesia - broad appeal

Altho this is not new in #communityhealth working in marginalized & traumatized populations that have good reason to have low trust in “the system” or “authority” and @DrJCoftheDC continues work common in #FQHC @EBNHC @The_BMC for #publichealth outreach
