Among the tents destroyed by the military at GGG, was the IT Center, the Disabled Soldiers Tent, the Community Kitchen that fed so many hundreds of people daily FOC, the SYU Tent, the Hearing Impaired Tent, & the Gate Zero Tent.
Another group of 5-6 protestors, including journalists Chathuranga Pradeep & Kasun Kumara, were brutally assaulted by the SL Air Force & released a little while ago on the Galle Rd in Kollupitiya.

6.05am - Five hrs after Ranil deployed the tri-forces & police to assault unarmed protestors & dismantle GGG, roads leading to GGG are still blocked & nobody is allowed in or out.

Abt 100 protestors are still trapped inside GGG, which is surrounded by the military/police, as adjoining roads to Galle Face are only now slowly opening to traffic.

The media that was blocked from entering GGG earlier this morn, are now having their bags checked prior to entry
Many of the protestors who were brutally assaulted by the Air Force & military today, have been hospitalised, with about 40 wounded protesters still trapped inside GGG, with no way of getting out, as the entire area is surrounded by the military. Image
As there was no pre-warning of this morning’s attacks many protestors lost their possessions, including books, phones, laptops, clothes etc that were in the tents that were destroyed by the military.

Lawyers say that these possessions are now in the custody of the Fort Police
The @HRCSriLanka & the @BASLSl condemn the brutal attack on unarmed protestors at GGG, early this morning.

Protestors need support from both local & especially the international community & media to protect them from Ranil’s clear mandate of violent repression! ImageImageImage
If this is the type of violence the Sinhala Buddhist majoritarian State can unleash on people largely from the Sinhala south, let there be no doubt in anyone’s minds, at least now, what it is capable of doing & has committed during the war & after, against the Tamil community.
Six protestors, including 2 journalists, were subject to inhumane torture by the SLAF, where they were askd to kneel on the gravel rd & then beaten with batons by Sr. & then by Jr officers. Then an officer in black had hit them & told them not to look up that they would be beaten
Two SLAF officers were kept on either side of the protestors & told to shoot them if they tried to get up. The officer in black had then got protestors to spread their arms out & hit them hard on both ears @ once. One protestor is still deaf in 1 ear & others are severely batterd
“I was beaten on the head & spine with batons & kicked by the SLAF. When I fell down, they dragged me on the road & took me. My leg is badly injured. Dr told me that he would refer me to an orthopedic for long term treatment,” said a journalist who was tortured by the SLAF.
The 6 protestors who were takn near the railway tracks by the US Embassy & tortured by the SLAF early this morning, were asked to walk on their knees on the gravel, stand on their toes & beaten on their heads, back & legs, until some of them collapsd

In response to a RTI request by @tharinduij the Police have refused to provide data relating to their purchase of teargas in the last 5 yrs citing “national security”. This can only mean they haven’t purchased in the last 5 yrs & are therefore using expired teargas on protestors.
Police also said that they destroy docs not required in court every 5 yrs. The RTI Comm warned that this could be in violation of the National Archives Ordinance & that if Police are found guilty of haphazardly destroying docs that it could be punishable with upto 2 yrs in prison

Lawyers say that Wasantha has not been questioned for the last 2 wks, & Siridhamma himi has only been questioned 4 times over the course of his entire 58 days of detention.

Wasantha's family, in a letter addressed to @SingerHanaa expressed their grave concern for his deteriorating health, due to suffering from a skin infection caused by a lack of ventilation & light. The lack of a clean space, increases his risk of infection & other health issues. Image
Siridhamma himi's family too in a letter addressed to @SingerHanaa cited the UN Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, which should at least give due regard to climatic conditions & particularly, cubic content of air, minimum floor space, lighting, heating & ventilation.-1 Image
It should also meet adequate bathing, shower & sanitary installations, & clean clothing must be provided to maintain personal hygiene as well. It further notes that the Rules provide that all health care needs, including for treatment & medication, must be provided.-2 ImageImage

Wasantha has been suffering with a severe skin eczema on his leg for over 3 weeks, due to the appalling detention conditions & lack of sunlight for over 65 days.

Some great news as the SC gives leave to proceed on the FR petitions of Wasantha & Siridhamma himi.

Courts ordered that the students be immediately produced before the relevant Magistrate, lawyers & family to have reasonable access to them & them to be produced before JMO asap. Image
Although the SC has given leave to proceed in Wasantha's case, there is still a delay in the case of Siridhamma himi due to a technical error.

Getting more & more ridiculous daily, today Police disrupted a peaceful protest under the pretext of not being permitted to use a megaphone. They then went on to grab it from the hands of the young woman holding it, after the protest was over & the protestors were dispersing!
Wasantha was produced before the Karapitiya JMO as per the instructions of the SC, today. Again he was taken with his entire body covered in a sheet, with even the windows in the jeep he was transported in, covered with paper, so nobody can see inside. Image
He is being denied any access to the sunlight, & is having to endure severe mental trauma. The State continues to cause torture to the 2 students. The 8x4 cell they were kept in at the TID, is meant to accomodate an A/C. -2
However, as the A/C had not been working for some weeks, Wasantha had conracted a severe skin disease. Siridhamma himi too contracted Dengue whilst in custody. This was caused to being exposed to many mosquitoes & not being given in a mosquito net. -3
