A thread on some policies that could have been announced at Tory conference to demonstrate new ideas and fresh answers to big questions:
1) big investment in T levels and an end to the presumption of 3 year university degrees - take on the universities, new careers, lower cost
2) back Sajid Javid and go big with public development corporations, reforms to compulsory purchase and planning - use uplift to build infra
3) Announce 3 new towns to built by these development corporations - we used to do this, why did we stop?
4) Allow google or a rival to trial a driverless taxi service in a major city
5) following the Bell review invest heavily in NHS patient data as a resource for AI based medical innovation - unique asset for the UK
Each of these is a big, big row, but would have been more interesting than a bit more social housing and an energy price cap...
