Reality: a handful of GOP electeds are put off by Trump’s vulgarity and style. But substantively he and they (and most Republicans) agree.
Particularly on economics (note that McCain didn’t object to killing Obamacare, just to the way McConnell ran the process...)
Most Republicans and Trump are perfectly in sync on tax cuts for the rich, healthcare/Medicaid/Medicare cuts, cutting the safety net...
...deregulating polluters and banks, and generally legislating on behalf of the rich.
The substantive differences are on the Bannonite priorities (ending free trade, all but ending non-white immigration, Muslim bans, walls...)
And extreme Christian right priorities like curtailing birth control availability and ending abortion.
And all of those are things GOP elites are willing to give the Trump base in exchange for the economic goodies for corporations and the rich
Far right priorities (ending immigration, controlling women) were back bench stuff (incl for Pence and Sessions when they were in congress).
Trump’s election made them front burner. And most Rs will gladly go along to get their super rich donors’ main priorities. $$$
