Whenever this truth washes over me, I get really angry, not at Trump, but at Republicans.
We are all in grave danger, and it’s not because Trump is in power specifically. It’s because Republicans are in power.
They’ve shown us what they want to do. Put bluntly, they’d like to mug us and leave us bleeding on the side of the road.
They’d also like to continue a foreign policy they masquerade as security but which can only be described as thuggish kleptomania.
As for domestic policy, what they favor is very clearly a ethno-fascist religious police state.
Trump represents some specific and unique threats, by virtue of his being a moron, and probably one that is confused to some extent.
But if (hopefully when) we replace Trump, we will merely be replacing a noxious fast-acting poison gas for a slower odorless one.
They won’t prosecute Trump’s perversion of electoral process, not just b/c they want to pass a theft bill, but b/c they dislike elections.
We really must never forget what they have allowed here.
And we mustn’t let them forget that Trump did not intrude upon them so much as he was summoned by them.
Perhaps the most noxious thing is that they don’t understand what they’ve unleashed.
They spent the last 50 yrs playing nudge nudge wink wink racism to bring in the white supremacists while fleecing us all.
Well Trump, like his white supremacist base, are too dumb and too racist to know they’re lying.
Do they really imagine their voters are going to go back to nudge and wink when Trump is mainlining the pure uncut stuff into their veins?
There’s no way. Genie is out of the bottle. Breitbart in the press room. Bannon in the think tank. Nazis in the streets. Coulter on campus.
That is on them.
I think most of them still think they can play that game. But it’s too far gone now. They flirted with the devil and the devil came.
I guess my point in saying this is, we should be clear on what the stakes are. And what that party has proven themselves to be.
If you want to hashtag #NeverForget, make it be for the persistent daily menace of the GOP in the age of trump.
