Iran was relatively modern & secular before the Islamic Revolution. Sizeable portion of the population wants a return to the life they once knew.
Thinking of family & friends in Iran who yearn to live in freedom. Those who’ve watched their country descend into a backward Islamic republic. Shame on those in the West who stand with the Iranian regime. Why are you here?

This is my mum & her friends in Iran before the Islamic revolution. All were professional, independent & free women.
Images of Iran pre-Islamic revolution. The first two are ads, the lady with the gun is my mum. #IranProtest
Women shouting Bisharaf (dishonourable, bastard) at authorities. Incredible bravery by women who’ve been oppressed for decades. #IranProtest
It takes incredible courage to protest against the brutal Iranian regime. Neda Agha-Soltan was shot dead during 2009 protests. These women are warriors.

Me before & after the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Had to wear the veil once I started school. Hated it with a burning passion.
For those asking my mum is third from the left in the group pic. She was quite the glamour. This was taken in Tehran during early 70s. #PersianPrincess
Protesters chanting blessings for Reza Shah. Remarkable. #IranProtests
The guts of this woman. She’s refusing to leave protest & says: “I’d rather die right here”.
#IranProtests
They’re chanting: “we don’t want, we don’t want an Islamic republic”
These protests aren’t small & they’re not just about economics as CNN & NYT claim. #IranProtests
For those in the West who back the Iranian govt and/or nuclear deal; you’re strengthening a regime that subjugates women, locks up journalists, tortures/kills dissidents & imposes the death penalty for ‘crimes’ such as homosexuality, blasphemy & adultery. #IranProtests
‘Why are traditional MSM outlets – grandstanding over their importance in this new, bold era of fact-checking and truth-telling – largely ignoring a blossoming revolution.’ Or worse regurgitating the regime’s narrative. #IranProtests

Courage personified. It’s heroic to protest in an Islamic republic where dissidence can be punished by imprisonment, torture & even death. There are reports that protesters have been shot during #IranProtests.
They’re chanting: “Basiji, go get lost”
The Basij are a much feared paramilitary arm of the Islamic revolutionary guard. #IranProtests
Basij were responsible for killing Neda Agha-Soltan during 2009 protests. Iranian regime banned her family from holding a memorial & has tried to rewrite history to blame protesters for shooting her. #IranProtests

It takes heroic levels of bravery for oppressed people, particularly women, in an Islamic republic to protest. They deserve our support.

What happened in Iran is a sobering reminder of how women’s rights can regress dramatically.

The regime strikes back with brutal force. @Reuters reporting 10 dead.
#IranProtests
The failure of empowered Western feminists to support their subjugated sisters in the Muslim world tells you everything you need to know about the Regressive Left/Islamist alliance.
The courageous protesters in Iran deserve the West's support.

The CIA director under Obama, ladies and gentlemen. “Peaceful political reform” is a regime lie. Only the most delusional or dishonest would push this fantasy. #IranProtests
Regime goons with loud speakers yelling “Allahu Akbar” are surrounded by protesters who chant “bisharaf” (dishonourable, bastard). The dream of a secular Iran is alive. #IranProtests
UN ambassador @nikkihaley reads out what Iranian protesters have been chanting. These are the anti-regime, anti-Islamic republic chants I’ve heard in dozens of videos. #IranProtests is not merely about the economy.
