Trump rates +79 with Republicans and -22 with Americans overall. Which suggests the GOP primaries are going to be a Trump lovefest before the winners make a hard pivot.
One way Trump’s 86% approval with Republicans matters is it creates an incentive for Hill GOP investigators to protect him—and it makes party leaders fear retribution from the base for taking any action against him, such as barring him from firing Mueller without good cause.
