1) I've covered politics a long time. I've never--never--seen anything approaching the desperations Ds have to keep this memo quiet. And as we know that worry about law enforcement (Snowden/Manning) is not their biggest worry, this memo must be damning to the core.
2)Have been in journalism all my life. Have never--never--seen the press corps fight so hard against transparency. Same media that after election wondered if it was out of touch with avg Americans, now ignoring the legit worries so many have about govt. accountability.
3) Every journo should be asked if they'd be fighting this hard against disclosure if it was a Bush DOJ/FBI accused of wiretapping abuses. Of course not. They'd be leading the charge to put it all out. 4th estate is supposed to enlighten the people. Not cover for govt. officials

1) Why does that matter? The Russian tax fraud uncovered by Magnitsky/Browder has been thoroughly investigated/documented by governments, independent journalists, human-rights groups; it is the basis for Magnitsky laws in US/Canada/Britain, passed on sweeping bipartisan bases;
2) it was the foundation of a years-long DOJ investigation into money laundering involving Prevezon, and other investigations that continue into entities that laundered the illicit funds. All this evidence is just... wrong?
3) Magnitsky Act has been exceptionally painful for bad actors in the Putin regime, since it targets individuals. It is exceptionally hated in Putin circles, and one response has been to destroy the reputations of those who brought it to light...

1) Those in the media who are exonerating the FBI by claiming it had no duty to warn Flynn about lying are (deliberately?) missing the point. Legal scholars note that the real question was whether Flynn understood the interview was taking place in an investigatory context.
2) Why does this matter? Because government officials talk to each other all the time, not as part of investigations. As the McCabe memo from that day itself makes clear, the initial part of his conversation with Flynn was about a training exercise.
3) So the FBI had a responsibility to explain to Flynn that he was being interviewed as part of an investigation into his actions. That McCabe suggested he didn't need a lawyer and that the agents chose not to give him all the facts so he would stay "relaxed" is the opposite.

1) The information contained in the Flynn defense filing about FBI behavior is pretty concerning, and I encourage folks to read it themselves: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5526…
2) Remember, at this time, the FBI's investigation was still secret. Flynn did nothing wrong in contacting the ambassador, and had no reason to believe himself in legal jeopardy. Meanwhile, this was a man with 33 years of exceptional military service.
3) A paratrooper, Army Ranger, intelligence officer, three-star-general, and then National Security Adviser. That's a resume that earns you benefit of doubt. FBI had the transcripts of the ambassador conversation and could have just noted that and asked him about it.

trump is now walking down a line of executives telling him how great he is as his adult daughter walks behind him, clapping for each statement. this isn't how things are usually done in america and we should keep saying so.
for those of you just seeing this, this is how almost every trump event has gone for the last year and change. trump speaks, brings people up to the mic, and they tell him thank you for being so great. ive followed politics for a long time and ive never seen it like this.
these are the companies represented at the event telling trump how great he is. because we live in a nightmare universe now.

At the outset of the #Brexit process, most people assumed that a deal on #police and #judicial co-operation was easier to get than one on #trade. Time has shown this is not the case. Ongoing co-op on #JHA is one of the few items yet to be agreed on #withdrawal deal. Why?
Well, because the #EU and #UK's opening positions in the #negotiation are incompatible: Britain wants a #bespoke agreement with the EU, a la #Schengen, but is not willing to accept #ECJ or #EUCharter. EU wants to replicate existing models. What to do?
