The Trump government is a farce. We're now being told that the previous administration wanting to be kept apprised of efforts by federal law enforcement to protect the homeland against aggressive digital incursions by Russia is a scandal.

No, Mr. Trump—it's what a *leader* does.
2/ President Obama and top Congressional Democrats begged Mr. McConnell and his allies in the GOP to stand with the American people in the face of an unprecedented Russian threat and the Republicans *refused*. They *refused* to move to our defense. *That's* the goddamned scandal.
3/ We have a party in this nation, still permitted to hold its head high as an entity loyal to American interests, that was told months before the 2016 election that the Russians were trying to decimate our electoral infrastructure and undermine our rule of law and they *yawned*.
4/ And now, the man who above all in America directly profited from that Russian aggression, who indeed encouraged it at every turn, who may in fact have suborned it in private communiques, has the unremitting *gall* to tell us that those who sought to protect us are our enemies.
5/ I say there must be an end—and soon—to this universal illusion of normalcy, in which we pretend a citizen could have either of two views on whether what Mr. Trump has done since ascending to power, and what the GOP did in secret before the election, was in America's interests.
6/ I say there must be an end—and soon—to the mutually assured destruction we invite by blithely watching our government do *nothing and less* to protect its people against future assaults on our democracy and the sanctity of our elections as another national election draws near.
7/ Mr. Trump has been disloyal, from the start, and publicly so, to any American interests but those of himself and his family, and the Republican Party, to any interests but their own creeping administrative advancement, and on some day soon Americans will have had enough of it.
8/ Peaceful, lawful, and loyal opposition to a government that seeks to cannibalize its most austere and noble elements for the sake of venality and vain purpose is not just warranted but mandated by citizenship and the broader privileges we *all* enjoy as people living here now.
9/ It can no longer be ignored that this president and his lackeys across the government are daily fouling everything we once considered noble and ennobling about our government, our culture, and our discourse as persons collectively loyal to what America represents. It's enough.
10/ Mr. Trump is an exploded bombshell in the midst of the American polity, whose grotesque recklessness from the moment of his appearance on the political landscape richly warrant censure from all quarters of American life and by all who hope to be fondly remembered in history.
11/ Mr. Trump—and those who prop up his feckless, increasingly dire designs on our country—are rightly adjudged enemies of the American values upon which life in this nation has for long memory been founded. We must all choose our manner of peaceful, lawful, loyal opposition now.
12/ We're tired. Many feel beaten. We lack confidence in our leaders to protect our interests—with reason. But we must rouse ourselves to a steady course of resistance—rejection of venal interests, promotion of the nation's—or sooner than we think we won't recognize what we are.
PS/ In case it isn't clear—perhaps because so many loyal to Trump rather than the truth are muddying it—on September 2, 2016, the Clinton probe was closed and Anthony Weiner's PC had not been found. President Obama was referring to the Russia investigation, not the Clinton probe.
