1) And now time for today's random fucking evening installment of the Conservative Underground News of Twitter! Today's topic: The Fake News! What is it? What causes it? WHY WONT THEY STAAAAAAAHP >.<
2) First, what is the Fake News? It is, boiling away alllllll of the bullshit, taking the raw information a news organization has access to, rejecting the reality they present, and cherry picking a few random tidbits that fit the narrative they're trying to sell.
3) Many of the writers that we know, such as those of the Debradelai Rat List, often do not actually gather the information for an article themselves. That's right: at the larger news organizations, the writers don't do their own research.
4) All of the information is gathered into large pools of information, the size at one significant news organization up towards 10 TB, and data analysts are paid to dig and sift through the data for the 'journalists' articles.
5) Would it surprise you to know that these data analysts almost to a man, having access to the raw information (interviews, leaks, etc) lean conservative as a result of this, or at least are not rabidly anti-Trump?
6) Would it surprise you even more to know that in reality half of some major fake news organizations are actually conservative, but they're not the ones getting the big headlines pushed, or even being allowed to write their own articles?
7) So what's happened, why would an organization that's half conservative act as full leftists? Money.
8) These news organizations aren't making money. Advertising is a dying revenue stream, which relies on pageviews. The more pageviews and impressions, the better.
9) Now, if you're going to churn out articles that were at least somewhat tangentially related to the news, who would you target? The political wing that tends to read headlines and maybe the top paragraph or two, or the group that break down and analyze their articles?
10) You swing to the page view maximizing, and thus profit-maximizing, side of the equation. The left. Now, something to keep in mind: this was a gradual change over a decade
11) At first there was still at least a split amongst the major news, and both political sides at least had a vocal presence. However, then came the rise of what I call Obama Democracy.
12) In Obama Democracy, Supreme Leader Obama can do no wrong. Anyone who says he does wrong is themselves wrong. The masses read how Obama does no wrong and his opponents are evil or insane for opposing him.
13) The news organizations pushing Obama Democracy are corporations, profit-seeking entities. They presumed that the majority of potential viewers supported Supreme Leader Obama for his glorious works, so spreading positive messages was the best way to get precious pageviews.
14) Slowly, those who opposed Obama were silenced, relegated to backstage duties, had their voice disenfranchised. But they needed to keep their jobs, because Obama's economy was horseshit and this business model was bleeding out slowly.
15) The NEXT piece to fall into place leading to the Fake News era we're in is that news corporations had their journalists slowly turned into propaganda mouthpieces when no one was looking.
16) By the time the 2016 election occured, dozens of journalists were being invited to dinner parties (briefings) with Hillary Clinton. Democrat operatives and journalists were interchangable terms.
17) Partisan government employees and groups like Fusion GPS were feeding stories to compliant journalists.
18) With how fast the sudden collapse of journalistic standards were, well, who'd notice a few planted stories?
19) Herein lies the problem though: news corporations are slow to make decisions. They're slow to correct course.
20) For a decade the business model was pander to the left, then it became take news from the Democrats and Obama administration to distribute and streamline the pandering to the left.
21) It was the Obama Democracy after all! Everyone loved Obama, and anyone who didn't was evil or insane! So our revenues were down a bit, that's fine, its election year, and Hillary vs Sanders is going to be hyped to be the real race for the year!
22) Then the Democrats said to their friendly journoperatives, hey, if you wanna help Hillary make the general election easy and one sided, promote this Trump guy a bit for the primaries. Its fine, pay attention to him, it'll drive Obama haters even more nuts.
23) Then... the general election. Email leaks. Democrat primary rigged. Email investigation. Wikileaks. Suddenly half the goddamn country hates Obama. WTF HAPPENED TO THE OBAMA DEMOCRACY?!?
24) This is the collapsing star that became the black hole of Fake News. All of the journoperatives were used to the old system of churning out propaganda for the left. They didn't know what else to do. THEY DOUBLED DOWN.
25) Pageviews pageviews pageviews. If they couldn't be right, they were going to get a lot of attention regardless, and if they were wrong they'd be pumping out a new article in 3 days anyways!
26) To their data analysts left so long neglected, they said, "Give me all the data that proves Trump is racist!" "That data doesn't exist." "Then give me what does!"
27) Their friendly government sources all started screaming 'RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA!' And so to their data analysts they said, "Give us everything on Trump and Russia!" "That data doesn't exist." "Then give me that dossier that was left in the bathroom stall as backup shittickets!"
28) Slowly, after a year of hyperbole, bullshit, their government sources cycling out of the administration, their pageviews declining, their revenues declining with them... they're finally changing course.
29) The all-hands meeting I spoke of last week? The question was asked: "When does Putin get an apology?"
30) Imagine that question being asked a year ago. A year and a half ago.
