/ Welcome to Tuesday in the independent republic of Brexitlandia
/ Well we are soon going to hear from our illustrious leaders about their vision for Brexit. We will hear from @theresa_may Cretinus Maximus @DavidDavisMP Global @LiamFox @BorisJohnson 🤡And @DLidington
/ Curiously we will not hear from @PhilipHammondUK or @AmberRuddHR because we must not hear about how the economy may do or how @AmberRuddHR wants an evidence based approach to immigration reform 🤔
/ Which is odd really because what people remember from the vote is money for the NHS (which assumes a strong economy) and immigration control.
/ What the speeches won't focus on is how much we export to the EU and how much of that could be jeopardised. Turns out exports are rising
/ For example, look at this for cars
/ On a broader scale, let's look at this
/ I am no expert but staying closely aligned with the EU seems to be a really good idea
/ And that is before we raise the issue of preserving the GFA YET AGAIN 😡
/ Apparenrly the UK and Ireland are going to work together to get the UK out of a hole by trying to agree a comprehensive trade and customs arranagement that means the U.K. is not caught by para 49 of the phase 1 deal and regulatory alignment theguardian.com/politics/2018/…?amp=1
/ @campaignforleo described this as "the tricky bit" while inwardly chuckling that the UK has politically committed to abiding with SM and CU rules with no say. 🤐
/ But none of this will deter @BorisJohnson 🤡from arguing we should make full use of our "returned sovereignty" by immediately giving it away again in trade deals where we diverge from the EU 🤡🤡🤡
/ @BorisJohnson 🤡will argue that is how we make the best economic decisions for our country ignoring (1) all the available evidence to the contrary and (2) para 49 of the phase 1 deal amp.theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
/ And how does @BorisJohnson 🤡propose to make his case I hear you ask?
/ His first argument is that the EU is a political project underpinned by economics while Brexit is a political project undermined by economics 🤤
/ This from the European Commission shows how terrible the project is
/ But @BorisJohnson wants to make his argument that we cannot be in the EU because it is a political and economic project. But what he does not ask is are we better served by being part of this.
/ I mean the Treaty of Rome was clear on its purpose eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/…
/ And the UK thought this a good idea in 1961
/ "For a Europe that fails to put forward its full economic strength will never have the political influence which I believe it could and should exert within the United Nations, within the Western Alliance, and as a means for effecting a lasting détente between East and West"
/ The case for a strong economic EU is for a strong political EU and with the UK part of it we benefit from that strength.
/ But @BorisJohnson 🤡won't talk about that, just about free trade even though the evidence is that just focusing on trade deals will not help us economically or indeed politically 🤦‍♂️
/ So now we know his trade argument is hot air what else does @BorisJohnson argue as his reason for his approach? JS Mill you say?
/ I wonder which JS Mill quotes we will see? 🤔
/ This one? "It is not because men's desires are strong that they act ill; it is because their consciences are weak."
/ This? "A state which dwarfs its men, in order that they may be more docile instruments in its hands even for beneficial purposes--will find that with small men no great thing can really be accomplished."
/ My guess is @BorisJohnson has the JS Mill thing arse about face in his "appeal" for a liberal approach to Brexit 🙄
/ I mean if you are creating friction"more" trade you need to do something else to be competitive like slashing rights of individuals. Hmmm will @BorisJohnson go into that detail?
/ No - because detail is for others. Don't expect him to explain how he plans to use this "returned sovereignty" in a way that does not lead to a worse outcome for each of us in our daily lives 😤
/ But do ask your MP how slashing rights is in the interests of their constituents because there is no mandate for that 🤥🤥🤥
