Thread: Americans who masquerade themselves as patriots but are truly Kremlin backers are in full meltdown mode over the DNC lawsuit announcement. Will add more here shortly on everything you need to know about this lawsuit.

First: It is important to remember there is a difference between conspiracy theories and criminal conspiracies.

Russia perpetrated a brazen attack on our democracy, and they worked with WikiLeaks and the Trump campaign to do that. That is a criminal conspiracy. Not a conspiracy theory.

This is not the first time the DNC has filed suit against a presidential campaign.

Following the Watergate breach, the DNC filed a suit against the campaign to re-elect President Nixon after a member of his campaign was arrested for the break in.

The DNC complaint makes the case that:

A. Russia attacked our democracy.

B. A major part of this attack was hacking the DNC, stealing proprietary information, and then working with WikiLeaks to unlawfully release it to the public.

C. They found a willing partner in the Trump campaign, who shared their goal of damaging the Democratic party and helping to elect Donald Trump.

D. The Trump campaign had repeated secretive communications with Russian agents and WikiLeaks. Specifically:

Russia told Trump advisors that it wanted to help Trump and had stolen emails and other material that could damage Trump’s opponent & Trump advisors were also in contact w/ WikiLeaks, and Trump’s closest political advisor had advanced knowledge of a major release of stolen emails

E. It is a disgrace to our country that instead of taking actions to put America first, Trump’s campaign put Russia and themselves first.

F. No one is above the law. All actors who engaged in this illegal activity need to be held accountable for this horrific attack on the DNC and our democracy.

This filing is patriotic, not partisan. If the occupant of the Oval Office refuses to protect our democracy, Democrats will. It is our obligation to the American people.

Cohen Milstein is representing the DNC in this case. They have a history of successfully litigating complex and socially significant cases.

Recently, Cohen Milstein settled the largest data breach case to date for data breaches that affected approximately 80 million Americans. One of the DNC attorneys, Geoff Graber, was the co-lead counsel.

The firm has an international human rights practice, through which it has extensive experience suing foreign governments using the Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act.

Donald Trump will continue to do all he can to make Putin proud and obstruct American justice. The path he often likes to take is known as “Whataboutism"

Whataboutism is known for attempts to discredit an opponent's position by charging them with hypocrisy without directly refuting or disproving their argument, which is particularly associated with Kremlin propaganda. In this case, Trump’s opponent is America.

A prime example of where Trump is attempting to falsely change the perceptions of Americans through his disinformation & obstruction campaign relates to the DNC hack. The DNC handed over everything that the FBI asked for. Period. This included carbon copies of the servers.

Donald Trump, who cannot work a cell phone, believes FBI agents should walk in and unplug a server and leave with it. The practice the FBI used in the case of the DNC was to make copies of everything on the servers.

Instead of lying about the DNC, Trump should actually do something to protect our democracy. But we know he is not willing to do that. That is why the DNC has taken this action. There are multiple parties involved, including, but not limited to, Trump Jr.

It is important to note the DNC filing is separate from, but now ongoing parallel to, multiple other cases: Michael Cohen; Robert Mueller; Michael Avenatti;

Each and every single one of these steps is important. Thank you to the DNC for stepping up and taking this first step.
