Richard Stallman is the reason I didn’t start contributing to open source (then called “free software”) in the 90s.

I’m not the only one.

He and his followers pushed out a whole generation of female developers, just at that critical time when open source adoption was widening.
Now Stallman has the unmitigated gall to suggest that removing his disgusting jokes (& believe me, the jokes weren’t the half of it) will KEEP WOMEN OUT.

RMS my dude...if you want more women in open source, the best possible thing you could do is leave & never come back.
To this day:
- I will not knowingly use any software he wrote.
- I will not contribute to any project he's associated with.
- I will not attend or speak at any conference where he's present.
- I will not promote the aims of any organization he's affiliated with.
RMS is straight-up toxic to everything he touches. He was in the 90s, and apparently he apparently hasn't learned anything in the intervening two decades.
Maybe this is RMS's last-ditch effort to return to his glory days, when he could put abortion references in the documentation, and talk about virginity in his conference talks, and nobody would push back.

But I have a message for him:
This isn't RMS's world anymore. It's changed. He's not in charge.

And thank fucking god for that. [fin]
