I am unable to process these new congressional midterm poll numbers which reflect a strengthening GOP v. Dem across generic ballots.

Well, I am unable to process them emotionally, intellectually they make perfect sense.

And it could get worse.

There has been a very clear and direct attempt across a wide variety of media genres to not only normalize the Trump administration, but also to promote it as outsider chic, as a thing understood by social rebels.

They are trying to turn it into the new acquired taste.

From Rosanne Barr to Kanye West to the mom's of SNL cast members the attempts to reshape Donald Trump's reputation via popular culture is in full swing.

These aren't the only examples, of course, only the most publicized and recent.

It goes deeper.

Fox recently announced the perplexing cancellation of two of it's popular sitcoms, including Brooklyn 99, which runs on Fox's popular Sunday night slot between The Simpsons and Family Guy.

The move caused consternation among fans, of course, but Fox had other plans.

Those plans include a revival of Tim Allen's sitcom "Last Man Standing," a show cancelled last year by ABC. It was a strange revival considering the chorus requesting it seems to be populated mainly by those who make the show.

Strange until you consider the following.

The shows lead actor and the character he portrays are gleefully pro-Trump, and virulently anti-Democrat. The number of crassly anti-Clinton "jokes" that found themselves into the dialogue of the show's original run was troubling.

It will debut on Fox in September.

You are more than welcome to see all of this activity as nothing more than happenstance, but I would consider that opinion naive. You are also more than welcome to believe that such obvious and shallow attempts to steer the voting populace have no effect, but, again, sigh.

I wrote in a rather long thread some months ago that nothing that has happened since 2014 has been a coincidence or an accident.

Not a damn thing.

That includes Rosanne getting pro-Trump reboot just in time to make a splash as midterms election loom large.

The drumbeat of normalization and memory refinement will continue and become even more intensive.

I am not suggesting that Trump and Republicans can or will turn it around. There will not be some sudden electoral surge to support them in November (unless Russia wins again).

But they don't need that.

They only need to soothe the edges; calm the nerves. Convince enough people that things aren't really that bad and the blue wave that once felt so certain might suddenly look decidedly less tidal.

Can the resistance hold?

The Senate was always, honestly, going to be a challenge. And, as we know, it only takes one or two races to go wrong in the right places for Democrats to fall short of the total victory we, and the nation, need to fight this man.

We need to be acutely aware.

Hyper aware.

"There are no coincidences, and everything matters," should be our mantra moving forward. Every celebrity hug, every dip in oil prices and every spike on Wall Street should be considered wearily and with suspicion.

It's all a part of the plan.

They will begin serving us sweets aplenty soon. News meant to seem like recovery and maybe even reconciliation.

The sweets are meant to make us forget the poison, of course.

Most of us won't be swayed and it's our job to limit the number of those that are.

Kim fucking Kardashian knows shit about prison reform, though compared to the man she is supposedly discussing it with she probably looks like an expert.

This kind of bullshit will continue from now through November.
