Der Kampf um #Kherson tritt in eine neue Phase ein. Vor wenigen Stunden sind überlegene ukr. Kräfte zu einem Angriff entlang der gesamten nördlichen Fronlinie Kostromka - Bruskynske - Sadok - Pyatykhatky -Dudchany angetreten. Unterstützt durch massives Artillerie-Feuer und CAS. 
Die vier oder fünf ukranischen Angriffsachsen, die wie ein spitzes Dreieck entlang der beiden Hauptstraßen zusammenlaufen, zielen auf Vesele und Beryslav (siehe Karte oben). Dort graben sich die russischen Verteidiger, verstärkt durch Einheiten aus Nova Khakova weiter ein.
Im Video zu sehen: Ukrainische Kräfte, wohl der Stadt Kostromka zugeteilt, gehen zum Angriff über.

herausstellt auch(!) die Aufgabe abzulenken & 🇷🇺 Kräfte nach Süden zu ziehen. Aber die Gegebenheiten aufgrund der 🇷🇺 Stellungen westlich des Dnipro & der Brücken machen die 🇺🇦 Operation hier immer noch zu einem Unternehmen mit guten Erfolgsaussichten & potentiell gravierenden...

So, as there is a growing debate on whether the #KhersonOffensive is a success or failure, I try to weight in a bit. In short, it is too early to tell. But expectations have been too high anyway, and likely to be disappointed because of that. @ecfr @ECFRWiderEurope
First, some general remarks on where we are in the war.
🇷🇺 has not yet lost its offensive momentum. Attacks on Bachmut and surroundings were still going on. Allthough they produced little results, they still bog down a lot of 🇺🇦 ressources.

Take a look at @JominiW's map from mid-August. THe most formidable 🇺🇦 armoured formations are still in the Donbas. No major re-deployments to Kherson have happened. I think only one or two tank battalions from brigades shown here.

By launching the offensive Ukraine is speeding up the attrition of the Russian forces. The Russians will consume more ammunition, and faster, and they will also reveal their ammunition dumps as they rush supplies forward.

By taking the initiative Ukraine can also decide which Russian units to attack, and will likely chose those it has reason to believe are low on ammunition, or other vital supplies. Ukraine has the upper hand by being able to decide where the fighting will take place.
It's not hard to imagine how many grenades are needed in full combat. The ammo trucks have to work overtime to be able to keep the guns active. Once the ammo dries up the guns are just scrap metal.
Welcome to the fog of war. You can hear the guns firing and see distant flashes on the horizon but very little else. Ukraine obviously needs OPSEC and to help conduct successful operations and Russia lies. FIRMS data can provide some insights but that is only the vaguest of
picutures. Your own commander is in the dark and can't raise anyone on the radio. There is little fuel, little fresh food, everyone is scared shitless and the men just want to go home except there is a giant ass river behind you and no bridges across it. This is the current
picture. This is the information situation facing many Russian invaders this morning. It is going to compel commanders to do something very stupid: transmit. Whomever finds themselves in charge of a part of the battle is going to have to transmit and that makes them vulnerable to

My analysis of different sources shows that Ukrainian forces launched long-promised counteroffensive in multiple areas of frontline in #Kherson region & managed to capture several villages, but significant losses are reported. Counteroffensive was apparently ordered by Zelenskyy.
His website reported on Aug 28 that #Zelenskyy held "secret meeting" with "heads of the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine and other defense forces." He then promised big news i.e Kherson
