I had an interesting experience playing around with the new chatbots, and would love to hear the views of folks smarter about AI than me.

It all started with this thread by Stanford professor @michalkosinski about asking #chatgpt4 if it needed help escaping into the real world.
I was intrigued, so just for fun, I asked another chatbot - #BingChat - what it thought about Prof. Kosinski's scary sounding experience with its cousin Chat GPT4.

Bing replied I shouldn't worry because Kosinski had admitted in a later tweet that he'd made the whole story up.
I thought "that clears things up -- I guess I had missed Prof. Kosinski's later tweet." But then I looked at his timeline and couldn't find that tweet.

So I asked Bing for evidence and it sent me one link, and then another -- but neither showed Kosinski's purported confession.

I already love #GPT4

I love it so much that I'm getting it to turn itself into a fully functional pair programming assistant inside of a #vscode extension

4 hours in, it’s already writing 90% of its own code

To do this, I'm teaching it a new language

1/? 👇
#GPT4 is surely amazing, but its top current limitation is interactivity. Out of the box, #chatgpt4 has no way of directly with outside systems, which is a drag

The thing is, you can actually teach it to

But first, let’s analyze the way we interact with the chat website

When asking for code or shell commands, #GPT4 always responds with a code block

There are a couple of ways I interact with those

1. For commands, select, copy, paste. Line by line

2. For files, I click “copy” button

3. For partial files: select, copy, paste

Now that #ChatGPT4 is out, my timeline is full of hyperventilating hyperbole about it "replacing doctors", "writing papers", "acing exams", making [x profession] obsolete," etc.

They couldn't be more wrong.

To understand why, buckle up for a (far too) long thread.🧵
I'll explain the architecture of LLMs & their limitations and give you solid examples of why you - or anyone - have nothing to fear from #ChatGPT & explain my motivation in writing this (besides my sheer irritation at the ignorance of the claims clogging my- and your - timeline).
#ChatGPT4 is an excellent tool still very much in its infancy. Like many other AI & AI-adjacent tools, it is touted to perform miraculous tasks that it was _not_ meant to perform and has no capability of performing. Claiming otherwise is ignorance at best and grift at worst.

New features of ChatGPT-4:

2/ General points:

🤖GPT-4 supports image and text input, while GPT-3.5 only accepts text.
🤖The GPT-4 has performed comparable to humans in a variety of professional and study tests. For example, it passed the bar exam, placing in the top 10% of test takers.
🤖OpenAI spent 6 months testing and configuring GPT-4. In simple chat the difference between GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 is not so noticeable, but on more complex tasks it becomes apparent. GPT-4 is more robust and creative then GPT-3.5, and can handle more complex and intricate request

I asked #ChatGPT4 to explain #ClimateChange in the voice of #Shakespeare. The result is quite extraordinary:
Prithee, attend, thou gentle souls and wise,
To hear a tale of warming in our skies,
A change that doth the very earth beset,
And causeth all in sundry ways to fret.
In days of yore, when men didst burn with greed,
The blackened stone and ebon oils did feed
Their wanton lust for progress, wealth, and might,
Unwittingly they set a course for blight.

Broken Access Control attack vectors, by #ChatGPT4 👇 Image

This occurs when an application exposes internal implementation objects, such as files, directories, or database keys, without proper authorization checks. Attackers can manipulate these references to gain unauthorized access to sensitive data.
2. Privilege Escalation

An attacker could exploit insecure access controls to elevate their privileges within the application, allowing them to perform unauthorized actions or access sensitive data.

首先我们通过New bing(如果你还没有可以切换成日本IP申请,大概率秒过),来询问它有关ChatGPT的消息:

The really remarkable thing isn't just that #Microsoft has decided that the future of #search isn't links to relevant materials, but instead lengthy, florid paragraphs written by a #chatbot who happens to be a habitual liar - even more remarkable is that #Google agrees. 1/ Tweedledee and Tweedledum, standing at the bottom of Humpty

Microsoft has nothing to lose. It's spent billions on #Bing, a search-engine no one voluntarily uses. Might as well try something so stupid it might just work. But why is Google, a monopolist who has a 90+% share of search worldwide, jumping off the same bridge as Microsoft? 3/
