“Whence is it that you found the truth, o, Plato? … I know your teachers, although you seek to conceal them: you learned geometry from the Egyptians, astronomy from the Babylonians, you received pious invocations from the Thracians; the Assyrians taught you a great deal. > 1/2
>And, to the extent the laws [you expound] are true and glorify God, you have benefited yourself from the Jews.”

—Clement of Alexandria, Protrepticus 2/2
Klement adds that Plato took up the doctrine of the immortal soul from Pythagoras, who in turn had appropriated this from the Egyptians.

Origen deplored Plato, who took pains to learn the languages of Easterners, thus, ‘instead of remaining a Greek’, he opted for ‘behaving as a barbarian in order to benefit Egyptians & Syrians’, wherefore he ended up saying nothing helpful both to those barbarians & to the Greeks.
#Porphyry did not see Plato as an authority, not to mention his loathing of Socrates.
Aeneas of Gaza writes with contempt of Plato having misused the knowledge he received from the Egyptians and introducing transmigration of souls to animals, unlike ‘Plotinus, Harpocration, Boethus, and Numenius.’

@roydherbert For those interested in #Cosmology, this thread is a response to the #JWST observation of distant galaxies deemed by their large size to have been created before the Big Bang. We analyze this in light of current assumptions of #physics.
Physics is a study of rates of material change, of observed occurrence of events, of objects in motion. Celestial bodies appear to move across the sky, from day to night. A rock thrown up into the air comes back down to the ground. Photons interact in space over time.
Success in this study is historically evidenced through the methodical observation of nature, ascendent use of axiomatic over empirical logic in mathematical modeling, and rigor in the validation of that modeling in its application to industry as developed technology.

We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—
everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment. And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body. —st Paul
He was supreme in the beginning and—leading the resurrection parade—he is supreme in the end. From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone. So spacious is he, so expansive, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding./st Paul

According to Vedic Principals, world consists of Agni i.e., fire or heat and Soma (Varun) i.e. water, 12 forms of Sun (Surya – aditya ) and is the soul of all for those are being and for those who aren’t living being.

Nature controls by Indra who is most powerful god and who kills Vritra, the symbol of cloud to free waters. Vritra means one who covers and is derived from the root vri, to cover.  According to R.R.M. Roy the main force of expansion in the Vedic cosmology is Indra,
and his chief adversary, the main force of contraction, is Vritra and Maruts are Indra’s associates.

Vedic seers pray boldly to these natural forces and aspects for bestowing plenty and prosperity on them.

Inspired by and several important observational updates in recent months, I put together an updated compilation plot of H0 measurements from indirect (cosmological-model-dependent) and direct methods.  References are in the thread below. All units km/s/Mpc H0 Compilation as of 19 October 2020
Planck 2018:  H0 = 67.36 +/- 0.54  This is derived from the CMB TT+TE+EE and CMB lensing power spectra.  ("This value is our “best estimate” of H0 from Planck, assuming the base-LCDM cosmology." on their page 17)
ACT DR4 + WMAP9:   H0 = 67.6 +/- 1.1 This is derived from the CMB TT+TE+EE power spectra, with a conservative prior on the optical depth tau.   @ACT_Pol verifies that Planck 2018 'low' H0 value is not due to any systematics in CMB data.

@AstroKatie @yorkuniversity @YorkUScience 2. The big bang happened ~13.8 billion years ago. So what lies ahead? Could the universe collapse in a big crunch? Maybe – but as Prof. Mack explained, it's more likely that it will keep expanding. In fact, the universe is currently not only expanding but also accelerating...
@AstroKatie @yorkuniversity @YorkUScience 3. We seem to live in a universe with a non-zero cosmological constant. Right now, the CC appears small – but in the far future, the CC could come to dominate. That won’t end well! At best, in that scenario, we’re going to freeze to death in the dark...

@gkarani1 @TTawonga

The Universe consists of 3 types of substance: normal matter, 'dark matter' & 'dark energy'. Normal matter consists of the atoms that make up stars, planets, human beings & every other visible object in th Universe.
@gkarani1 @TTawonga In the currently scientific understanding of the Universe, 70% is dark energy, 25% dark matter and 5% normal matter.
@gkarani1 @TTawonga 3/ Hydrogen is the most common element found in the universe, followed by helium; together, they make up nearly all normal or ordinary matter.

After defining what a universe is, lets move to how it all started.

(1/5) I'm excited about a new paper that I've written with @GordanKrnjaic and Sam McDermott. It combines some of my favorite things: black holes, dark matter, and the Hubble tension.
#blackholes #cosmology #darkmatter #Hubble
(2/5) If even a small number of black holes were created around the time of inflation, their relative abundance would grow as the universe expands, making it quite plausible that the energy density of the early universe was once dominated by black holes.
(3/5) If these black holes were small, they would quickly Hawking evaporate. Unlike most other particle production mechanisms, this generates all kinds of particles, no matter how feebly interacting -- a promising way to generate dark matter and dark radiation.
